WBO announces USYK is now Mandatory

In a pronouncement with a lot of 'whereas' terms, the WBO announced that USYK is now the WBO Mandatory HW challenger. I fear that we are heading to a further splintering of the HW title.

Well Whyte ain't going to be happy. He is #1 wbo contender and is now out of contention for that belt.
And his big mouth is going to get him dropped by the wbc soon also

And most posters seem to think the WBC is the worst. This move goes against what fans want, a unified HW champ.

As I know, there is a rule (not sure written or no) when a champion moves up, he will be the mandatory in the new weight division, automatically. BTW,there was a thread here, several months ago.
Anyway, I doubt that Usyk will utilize his mandatory status right now.
So, I predict he will be the new HW champion by the end of 2020, except he faces Fury.

Crazy. I thought they placed him high in their top ten last month (or maybe I’m confusing them with WBA) but to put him as mandatory whilst injured is ridiculous...

Usyk's attorney filed to be placed as mandatory. I think that indicates he wants his shot sooner rather than later

What THAT suggests is that Team Usyk fears getting sparked by a tuneup HW.

No it won't bother EO at all. It only upsets him that he's not wbc mandatory even though he's turned down every eliminator

That's true. EO gets hyper focused and he's beamed in on the WBC situation. You might be right.

its a standard thing the wbo does, if the champ at one division moves up he can get a shot right away at the next division, they have this written out in there rules and didnt just create it, im surprised ppl act surprised .
btw i think most fans see the wba as worst, not wbc

not sure, could just as easily suggest that they think andy is super beatable and want to strike for a title now

I just didn't think they'd do it before the Ruiz/AJ rematch. Seems they could've waited, especially with Usyk being hurt.

its a rule theyve had for a while, a champ moving up can get a shot straight away if they want, not sure they really place any restriction on it based on other fights, after all its mandatory to a belt not a fighter

When is the mandatory due? By when does Usyk have to get his shot?
