Saunders continues to persue Callum Smith fight

Post by ALI »

A new offer was made again last week for Smith to take the fight.

Smith will have a big height, reach and weight advantage, he also has big career momentum at the moment, so kudos to Saunders for persuing the challenge. His team obviously fancy the job, Saunders himself must feel he see's something and thinks he can outbox Smith. I'm not so sure.

If Smith accepts the offer, how do you think this fight would play out?

Saunders would try and sneak a win on the back foot but Callum would just be too big and strong for him and win a clear points decision

I think callums a bit too big of a name to be fighting in a school gymnasium.

Billy will end up fighting the wbo no10 in some arsëhôle of nowhere stadium then come out and say everyone's ducking me, I'm the greatest since mohammed Tyson.

It's a brilliant match and tough(ish) to call.

Smith could easily end BJS's career, but then again we've all seen Smith look like "a big stiff idiot" at times and BJS is THE GUY you'd pick to nullify a size advantage with movement and backfoot boxing abiltiy. He could win a near shoutout if he's perfect on the night.

I doubt the fight will take place but I do hope it does. Anything to keep Billy off the streets playing knock down ginger or whatever he's up to this summer.

Also would imagine Smith is very tight at the weight. He always looks a weight division or two bigger than his opponents.

Not a big fan of either but i’d watch it. Both have had their underwhelming moments and both have looked good. I’ve seen a lot more of BJS than I have of Callum Smith but in terms of scalps and career best performances Smith beating up and stopping George Groves easily trumps schooling a faded Lemieux. George was a big lump too and Smith made him look small. I’m sure Saunders would be up for it but Smith by late stoppage for me.

There’s a reason Canelo dodged anybody half decent at SMW and is heading for the low hanging fruit at LHW with a declining Krusher who doesn’t like it to the body, which is where little Saul will be going all night. Smith would be a nightmare for him. BJS will have his hands full.

Callum stops him. That little Turkish fella had saunders in all kinds of trouble. Smith is a finisher.

So you saying Smith who has only beaten a shop worn Groves is a tougher match for Canelo than a still very dangerous Kovalev? Really??

BJS may be pursuing a fight with Smith, but if the fight gets made he'll be running like a thief in the night !

BJS is desperate for the fight. IMO, he NEEDS this fight and he knows it. big domestic world title unification fight.

As a big Kovalev fan and a Canelo hater, I can scarcely believe it but yes, I am saying it. There must something in it if Anthony Yarde and Canelo are both talking about Kovalev fights: some sort of slippage that gym insiders must know about.

Plus Canelo has shown good body work recently.

Smith is a fornicating big SMW and doesn’t present half the payday Kovalev does, and is still a fairly unknown quantity. I didn’t think he’d do Groves like that, faded or not.

Are you sure the offer wasn’t for John Ryder v BJS ?

That’s the offer now as Ryder has No1 position for Callum. Would need good few quid for him to risk that.

Great matchup, great contrast of styles. Hope it happens. I really want to see Smith start unifying. Saunders is a tricky opponent for him but I believe Smith has the tools - and is good enough - to win a tough one by stoppage. Saunders has all the style and ability to frustrate Smith. Smith would have to hurt or stop him. I believe he has the repertoire, size and temperament to get it done. Kind if a dramfight for me, to see how Smith copes.

Yep. And if BJS were to take a hiding against Smith, who let’s not forget is a massive super-middleweight, he could drop down back to middleweight and claim that he was never big enough for the 12 stone division. Not necessarily a massive loss of face.

But we all know he can just about make Middleweight when he wants. He walks around 180 or more even. He’s not the biggest guys. He just needs motivation.

I wonder when CEJ will drop back down to MW. He said he can still make it, which I believe he can. Huge fights.

The only SMW fight out there for him which would be a huge is Cal Smith. Other SMW’s are in the US.

Probably unlikely to happen, as both sides would want to promote.

Fwank would need to offer Cal a hell of a lot of money for the fight to appear on BT. I don't see anyone at SMW beating him and if a CEJ fight was to materialize, it would be a one sided beat down.

Doesn't seem like Hearn is even bothered about Cal Smith. If it means Cal getting a big payday, Hearn will allow it on BT Sport.

You’d hope he’d maximise Smith & try to make some super middleweight history given britain’s very good track record at this weight as well as Smith’s offensive skills.

Matchroom are out and out number crunchers. It probably does make more sense to farm Callum out as he's not all that interesting to the casual market.

funny thing is that cal i think is legitimately #1 in the world, with potential to be multi divsion champ, sucks there hasnt been more going on for him

hed beat bjs, and a canelo fight would be intriguing, and hilarious just for the size difference at head to heads
