WBC Begins Random Drug Testing of Their Ring Officials

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

The first two anti-doping tests for ring officials have been presented, as part of the Clean Boxing Program of the World Boxing Council.

The WBC implemented this standard to randomly test ring officials, based on the importance of maintaining maximum integrity in boxing. The tests are designed to detect the usage of recreational drugs such as: marijuana, cocaine and methamphetamines.

Steve Morrow, Judge of California and Frank Garza, Michigan Judge, presented the tests at the World Boxing Council headquarters located in Mexico City, both of which were negative.

The WBC will be working together with all the national and state federations of the world to develop this vital project.

I don't believe incompetent judges are using, they're just plain being a bunch of nobs!

Hopefully. That's the plan.

I take it's just for WBC sanctioned bouts tho.

Do their high ranking officials making these decisions get tested?

They only need to test Adalaide Byrd and maybe Suleiman aswell. I want to know so I can get some of that clearly excellent product.

I don’t see the point in this new scheme.

The WBC should reallocate the funds for the testing of their officials to test the fighters instead.

And rather than enjoying a lavish lifestyle funded by the financial punishments administered on fighters that fail drug tests, the WBC head-honchos should reallocate that money to funding additional testing.

The WBC rarely tests the fighters enrolled in their clean boxing program and almost no out-of-competition testing is actually performed, which is when the PED cheats are on their cycles.

..does that really improve the quality of officiating? they'd rather invest in setting up boxing seminars/courses for newbies.. :TU:

Hopefully the judges and other officials affected will file suit to stop this egregious assault on privacy.

Is a certain level of blood alcohol allowed or are there restrictions on that too?

This testing nonsense is going way too far.

It accomplishes nothing except to appease a certain segment of the public who routinely fixate on the drug subject in boxing.

Two suggestions:

- Test officials' pockets and bank accounts

- Test WBC people themselves, as their decisions often look like drug effected

Drug testing the officials but barely testing the fighters. My God. This sport.

They should be hiring private detectives and not drug tests for god sake. Have these judges lives and finances opened up and qualify the money they’ve received in the past 5 years and advise them of all major purchases within the last 5 years. The first putrid thief id start with would be Dave Moretti. I guarantee that guys made millions from Humping Floyd and Canelo scorecards the past ten years. Guaranteed he’s living way above his means as a rarely employed judge. The crook.

Maybe the sanctioning bodies' boards of governors should be tested.

Lol testing officials but banning fighters for what is practically their rest period between fights. The WBC really is the gift that keeps giving!
