Scott Welch interview

Post by MasterG »

Nice little interview with Scott Welch.

I remember when Welch came on the scene back in the early 90's and was a decent fighter. A little defenseless for my liking but had a decent punch.

Bugner said Welch hit harder than Bruno and only Frazier and Lyle hit him harder.

I watched it live and used to have it on tape. Odd that it hasn't surfaced on the internet yet. Was on the German portion of the Tyson/Bruno II ppv I think. Bugner couldn't get out of the way anymore and Welch really walloped him. Was probably the most impressive Welch ever looked, although obviously Joe was 46.

Great that Welch looks so well. A big handsome hipster!

I walked by him once at a show in Belfast when he was active. His head and neck were that big, it was hard to imagine him being hurt. You‘d think the shots would just bounce harmlessly off him.

Bugner couldn't get licenced in Britain, so that's why it ended up in Germany.

Only time I remember seeing him hurt was in the first Oyebola fight, on the undercard of Lewis/Jackson, when he got in the way of the swing of that wrecking ball right hand. Excellent fight.
