Monzon by decision. I won't pick anybody over Monzon at this weight. Monzon could adapt to everything and methodically break his opponents down. Hagler would be a tough matchup, but still Monzon would outbox him.

X3. King Carlos was ahead of his time. He was a thinking man's fighter.

Carlos by close UD. If Marvin didn't have this mental weakness where you could get into his head and mess with him, I could see him pulling out a close fight.

I would pick Hagler to win decisively over Monzon for a number of reasons. And first off, it's a myth that Carlos Monzon figured out and solved his opponents after a couple rounds. He didn't ! He outlasted them because he was more durable and had better stamina. Fight analysts who pick Monzon, typically make the argument that his laser guided jab and powerful straight right would keep Hagler at range. Tommy Hearns, who was faster and hit at least as hard as Monzon at 160, couldn't keep Hagler off in the 1st round, not to mention that the 5-9 Hagler ended up outjabbing the 6-1 Hitman. So with that in mind, I believe Marvin would force his way inside on Monzon, because he has the better chin, throws better combinations and has the more versatile jab that can come from anywhere, not to mention that in addition to being the first real Southpaw Carlos would ever face, he could also change back and forth from Southpaw to Orthodox. Once Hagler's inside (where Monzon didn't like the fight to be) he'd burrow his head into Monzon's shoulder and make himself difficult to hit while he pounded Carlos' body. Another myth is the frequently made assumption that Monzon wins the battle of the jabs and outboxes Hagler from the outside. If you believe Monzon automatically has the better jab you need to go back and watch alot more video of Hagler. Quite frankly I believe it's the other way around. In an outside battle I can easily envision Hagler getting the better of the jab war, while jumping in (sometimes literally) to land 3 punch counters. No matter how much you might admire Monzon, you have to admit, he got hit with some embarrassing shots in his career, punches that you'd never see Hagler, Hearns, Leonard, Duran. Benitez, etc get hit with. Flatfoot standing straight, chin up, posing for the picture and then Boom an overhand right. To be fair to Monzon he did take them very well. OK over to you Buzz :OhYes:
