Hearn promoting KSI v Paul rematch
Hearn promoting KSI v Paul rematch
If the rumours are true and Hearn has pretty much confirmed his involvement, what do you guys think? Is this just a step too far from Hearn/Matchroom? Its basically a money grab from him, but I'm interested to see how it works as it sounds like it will be a youtube PPV again. Does this compromise Hearn's contract with SKY (exclusivity both ways I believe). I know the 'fight' will be in the US but hes talking about putting BJS on there. Imagine that, a two time world champ and former olympian on the undercard of two Youtubers who have only previously boxed white collar. That's got to hurt.

KSI and Paul are going to turn pro for this rematch.
It will also be really good to get BJS on this card. Lot's of casual following. But he'sa gotta put on a show and force the crowd to cheer him on.

Yeh, as it's at the Staples Center, it will likely be around 5am UK time. I doubt Sky will want to put KSI vs. Paul on PPV. Two debutants. Youtube has worked fine before and will continue to work fine.dbf wrote: ↑03 Sep 2019, 07:47 If the rumours are true and Hearn has pretty much confirmed his involvement, what do you guys think? I still have no idea who these are - will the rematch have the same appeal though?

Re: Hearn promoting KSI v Paul rematch
They agreed 2 fight. One in the UK and a rematch in LA. First fight ended in a draw. Typical. Not making one look bad.
They held of the rematch for a while, KSI wanted to rest as he had 2 fights in the space of a year.
These guys are just popular on social media, because kids/teens now days have no life of their own. They'd rather follow other peoples lives. Pathetic.
Also, most of the people won't know or care that Matchroom are promoting it. They probably don't know what the word means.
Re: Hearn promoting KSI v Paul rematch
I have a feeling though that the audience for the first fight was very young, especially those paying for the PPV - I doubt they are going to be interested in professional boxing. They are fans of the main eventers and will likely not have the attention span for a 12 BJS masterclass.
Re: Hearn promoting KSI v Paul rematch
The first fight was a thriller tbf.
The styles gelled, they're really well-matched and they both gave everything.
Awesome effort from two debutante dilettantes

Isn't that pretty much what we are doing. Watching boxing, then sitting chatting about the fights and also the other stuff going on in their lives?!Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑03 Sep 2019, 09:10

99% of boxers claim to fame isn't through social media though. Boxing is a sport we follow and some of us talk passionately about. Who the eff are KSI and Logan Paul? What did they actually do to become famous? They definitely did something right and fair play to them.tobyh5 wrote: ↑03 Sep 2019, 11:56Isn't that pretty much what we are doing. Apparently the first fight sold out (was at the copperbox) and was full of teenagers, and they did mental numbers on the YouTube PPV for which they charged £5, I also have no idea who they are, YouTube stars apparently!

Did about 1.2million as a YouTube PPV for £7.50/$11. When you consider DAZN is almost 3 times more expensive and fans were complaining about the price anyway (given KSI Vs Joe Weller was free)... I don't see it being a DAZN smash... Kids have a few bucks to throw at some thing gimmicky, but triple the cost is going to be a big barrier IMO... Especially given their target audience are the smart pirate generation
Re: Hearn promoting KSI v Paul rematch
when I first involved in the boxing business more than 25 years ago a very wise man told me 'boxing is full of actors' and you what he was so right. How many times have seen the build up to a big fight, press tour, conferences, weigh in's etc more entertaining than the actual boxing event? ok, of course a few fights live up expectation I could far more that were just glorified sparring sessions and about as exciting a test match. I really love this sport, best in the world, but unfortunately when two youtubers earn more money for a four rounder the heavyweight champion of the world, its a sad sad day.

Can't wait for the sky commentators to call this one

Seems a bit poor if I'm honest and devalues the sport a bit, it will get plenty of exposure and it'd be good to see some top up and comers get some attention but if Saunders is defending his World title on the undercard then that's farcical

BJS is heavily rumoured for Undercard - Hearn all but confirmed it on Sat night.handsofstone wrote: ↑03 Sep 2019, 14:17 Seems a bit poor if I'm honest and devalues the sport a bit, it will get plenty of exposure and it'd be good to see some top up and comers get some attention but if Saunders is defending his World title on the undercard then that's farcical

Re: Hearn promoting KSI v Paul rematch
Bjs will be watched by at least 10 times the amount of viewers any Hearn show has had on DAZN! Huge showcase for him.
The two YouTube morons have turned professional
A pair of YouTube rivals who clashed in a sold-out boxing match have turned professional and signed up for a rematch in the United States.
KSI and Logan Paul shared a majority draw in a fight before 15,000 fans at the Manchester Arena in August 2018 which reportedly attracted a live TV pay-per-view audience of one million.
They will meet again at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on 9 November.
Briton KSI and US star Paul boast about 20 million subscribers each.
The rematch - to be shown live on streaming service DAZN - will be presented by British promoter Eddie Hearn, whose Matchroom Boxing outfit also represents former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, and OP Talent.
Matchroom say the fighters turned professional after passing medicals last week and will come face to face again at a press conference in LA on 14 September, with another in the UK to follow.
"Finally, after over a year since our rematch, I get to enter the ring once again to fight Logan Paul," said KSI. "If I'm being honest, I didn't fight well at all in the first fight, and even then, I still managed to draw against him.
"This time I won't make it so close, especially now that it's a pro fight, no head guards and 10oz gloves."
Paul said: "Last fight, KSI couldn't beat me with only three months of training under my belt. For the past year, while JJ has been wasting his time trying to become a rapper, I've been training every single day."
The first fight was described by promoters as the "largest live pay-per-view sports event in the history of the internet".
Hearn admitted his view had changed after initially believing the idea of the pair fighting at the Manchester Arena was "embarrassing".
"What I saw was a phenomenon; a sold-out arena, over one million PPV buys but more importantly an energy of a new audience to the sport of boxing," he said,
He promised a "world championship" undercard for the main fight.
Britain's WBO super-middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders, who recently joined Matchroom, has been linked with appearing on the bill.

Re: Hearn promoting KSI v Paul rematch
Sorry, only just seen this. Created another thread about it when I saw it on BBC.
Never really understood the interest in their first 'fight'. You wouldn't watch any other sport where two untrained non-professionals competed, would you? So why is there an interest in it when it's boxing.
At least they've 'turned pro' this time, I suppose.

It's not that I have anything against watching stuff on You Tube, per se.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑03 Sep 2019, 08:55 Yeh, as it's at the Staples Center, it will likely be around 5am UK time. If a person is doing vlogs or video chats on subjects on stuff you're interested in, it's technically just the internet version of watching TV.
But people do seem over obsessed with it. The fact that two people who have vlogs get millions of buys in a PPV boxing match is beyond me. Why watch that over proper boxing? Doesn't make any sense to me.
