The 5 Fights you wish would've gone different
The 5 Fights you wish would've gone different
Every Boxing fan has some fights, and results that really sucks for you because you were rooting hard for the other guy. What are some of these that you'd want changed?
#1 for me would be Jose Luis Castillo to get the decision over Mayweather with Maidana to get the decision over Mayweather in the 1st fight running a close 2nd.
#3 Robert Guerrero vs Michael Katsidis...I f*cking loved it when Michael screamed "WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING AT!" in Robert Guerrero's face when he was trying to mean mug him. Too bad he couldn't follow it up with the W, that would've made it really sweet.
Will think on it, and mention 4 and 5 for me later. #3 was the one that popped in my head that made me think about starting this thread.

Głowacki-Briedis, Gołota-Bowe I, Gołota-Bowe II, Gołota-Grant, Klitschko-Joshua + Gołota-Tyson, Michalczewski-Gonzalez. Of course Gołota-Ruiz, Gołota-Byrd, too.

Tyson/Holyfield
Holyfield was better prepared and won.
I get it. I never liked holyfield boxing style and hoped Tyson would just knock him out. In both fights. Evander using his head made me dislike him even more.
Kovalev/Ward
Obvious who won the first one. Wouldve been even more obvious with additional knock downs.
Pac/Bradley
Obvious
Trinidad/Hopkins
Tito was my favourite boxer. He brought it. Wheres X style was quiet boring.
Hamed/Barrera
Same reason

Norton-Ali III. Kenny was awfully robbed in the fight, which could be so bigger historically in a case of judges not being that bad.
Re: The 5 Fights you wish would've gone different
Any fight where a fighter has died in the ring or afterwards as a result of the fight.
Re: The 5 Fights you wish would've gone different
In no specific order:
.
Jimmy Young vs George Foreman
Would've been interesting to see Foreman/Ali Rematch.
Lennox Lewis vs Oliver McCall I
I think had Lewis won this fight, we'd have seen Lewis/Bowe.
Chavez vs Whitaker
I thought Sweet Pea won that fight.
Chavez vs Taylor
Stopping that fight with 2 seconds to go was criminal.
McClennan vs Benn
The most haunting fight I've ever seen.

1. Pacquiao-Bradley, the robbery of this century, definitely
2. Briedis-Glowacki
3. Parker-Ruiz
4/5 I can not decide................

Froch v Groves 1
The ref jumped in to soon and stopped the fight when there was no need .

Re: The 5 Fights you wish would've gone different
Bruno v Tyson
Bruno had him rocking and just couldnt put together enough to end it and got battered !

4. I'll just count this as one entry, but I was rooting HARD for GGG in both fights with Canelo. Was extremely disappointed in the verdict the 1st time around. Though I felt GGG had nicked the 2nd fight as well, the cynic in me knew there was no way he was getting that decision so when it was announced against him I was already expecting it.

I wish they would have let Lennox blind vitali so I wouldn't have to read about the crap on here now. Ironically I was cheering hard for vitali then.

Re: The 5 Fights you wish would've gone different
Castillo and Taylor just needed a legit ref and the result I wanted happened. Hearns/Leonard will always be 1 & 2.

LOL! That is funny!Onetimeonly wrote: ↑19 Sep 2019, 15:28 I wish they would have let Lennox blind vitali so I wouldn't have to read about the crap on here now. Ironically I was cheering hard for vitali then.
Re: The 5 Fights you wish would've gone different
1) Norton-Bobick
2) Holmes-Cooney
3) Holyfield-Foreman
4) Watt-O'Grady
5) Hagler-Duran
And I actually liked the guys I was rooting against in these cases. I certainly didn't dislike any of them.
I forgot Young-Foreman. Guess I have to take Watt-O'Grady off.

I was obsessed by the prospect of Ali-Foreman 2. In retrospect I think Jimmy Young answered the question of Ali-GF 2.

I think had Lewis won this fight, we'd have seen Lewis/Bowe.
Good point.
Chavez vs Whitaker
I thought Sweet Pea won that fight.
You didn't think he did. You know he did. He did.
Chavez vs Taylor
Stopping that fight with 2 seconds to go was criminal.
That was tragic and ridiculous.
McClennan vs Benn

Re: The 5 Fights you wish would've gone different
Taylor vs Chavez 1
I was a big Taylor fan
McGuigan vs McDonnell
McGuigan probably would have fought Nelson
Bruno vs Tyson 1
Imagine!
Froch vs Groves 2
Would have been a passing of the superstar baton
Reid vs Ottke
What a debacle that was

Naz v barrera. In fact I wish that Naz hadn't fallen in love with his power and taken training more seriouslygilgamesh wrote: ↑18 Sep 2019, 23:54 Every Boxing fan has some fights, and results that really sucks for you because you were rooting hard for the other guy. Re: The 5 Fights you wish would've gone different
I think my #5 is Castillo vs Corrales 1.
Nobody else would change a thing about it I'm sure, and I'm not sure if it's seen as The Classic that it is if not for Corrales coming back, and doing what he did, but I wish it would've been stopped after Castillo's 2nd knockdown.
The fact that it's considered one of the all time classic fights makes it a little easier to live with, but I'd have preferred Castillo to win it.
Morales beating Pac again would've been great. Or Morales beating Barrera in the 3rd fight would've been super sweet also.

Re: The 5 Fights you wish would've gone different
#1. Wilfredo Gomez v Sanchez and Nelson. The Nelson fight was close before the knockout. Gomez was a force of nature before the Sanchez fight.
#2. Arguello v Pryor. Loved Arguello and the first fight killed me. The second was predictable
#3. Maidana v Mayweather I. I thought Castillo should have at least gotten a draw in their first fight, and would have liked Maidana to do a little more and get the W here
#4. Antuofermo v Minter I. I was sure Vito won the first fight when I watched it live, but I also didn't know at the time the fix was in with British judge Roland Dakin, who gave Minter every round but one in a close fight and let Minter's corner know it during the fight.
#5. Zarate v Pintor. Zarate clearly won the fight, got ripped off, and he quit boxing in disgust. He was old and half the fighter when he came back six years later at 35.
#6. Fenech v Nelson I. I was a huge fan of both fighters but Fenech clearly won and the draw decision derailed his momentum
#7. Hagler v Leonard. Loved Hagler, was meh about Leonard. Close fight, wish Hagler had won and not retired, but he was getting old and would have lost fairly soon, I suspect.
Ok, that's 7 not five but I could do 100 of them
