Boxing Writers
Who do you like reading? There's guys who seem to be mainstream like Arsehole Davies and Bunce... Not really for me.. Dooley (who's a sound guy and knows his stuff) is a cracking writer. Probably my favourite. Who do you like?

Don't read much of it any more. Always liked Graham Houston who posts on here now and then.
Re: Boxing Writers
Yeah Terry is good. I always try and read Elliott Worsell, Tris Dixon and Donald Mcrae stuff too.

Re: Boxing Writers
I love all Donald McRae's boxing books.
I liked Dixon's wastelands book but not his Mayweather one.
Some of Springs Toledo's stuff is good.

Bob Mee always stands out, goes underneath the radar a bit
Re: Boxing Writers
Doogan was good, but he's out of the game now.

Re: Boxing Writers
There were two writers I loved growing up in the eighties and they used to run their articles in the Manchester Evening News pink (football results and reports) edition on a Saturday - and that was Gilbert Odd and O.F. Snelling, if you love fantastic boxing writing, they're selling Snelling's Bedside Book of Boxing for just over 13 quid on amazon which is a deal, a steal it's sale of the fornicating century...
Boxing News had a load of great writers in the eighties also - Bob Mee, Mullan, Tim Mo, Bennie, Graham Houston - as did The Ring and KO Magazine - Jeff Ryan was one I remember and the KO Magazine interviews from the eighties and nineties were absolute class!
These days, Terry Dooley, Ollie Fennell lead the pack but there are some really good boxing writers around and about these days, I tried to do it once and it is a lot lot harder than it looks.

Paul Zanon was out in Croatia covering a show I boxed on so took a look at his stuff when I got back, also good.

Tel Dooley of course
Isn't Springs Toledo the guy who became a laughing stock due to a hilariously scathing review he got in Boxing News?

Terry Dooley, followed his career since was it BritishBoxing.net or something?
Well respected by everyone who’s met him. Yet to find anyone with a bad word to say about him. The story with him and Emmanuel Stewart always makes me laugh.
Tris Dixon and I don’t mind Hausers lengthy articles. James Ellroy writes well about boxing.
Oddly I don’t mind Bunces articles. Weirdly he writes so different to what he comes across on the telly.
Got a few of Brian Hughes books.

Mark Kreigel's piece on "The Education of Bud Crawford" stood out - lovely immersive style.

I can't stand Hauser - he's pompous and entitled and doesn't even seem to like boxing.

Seems a bit sad that a very long term poster and respected boxing writer doesn’t post here any more

Re: Boxing Writers
I don’t know who he writes for these days but back when he wrote for second out I thought his in-depth articles were superb.
His piece on John Duddy and the help he gave him really exposed how fighters can be totally screwed by management.
When he went to the sweet science I agree the quality declined and he was more judgemental maybe - but I think that was the overall tone of the site.
Don’t know where and who he writes for now.

Proper industry knowledge and info is in short supply, thought it would be welcome on here.Khaosai-Galaxy wrote: ↑21 Nov 2019, 07:26Where is Old Terry?Dirk Kelly wrote: ↑19 Nov 2019, 15:37 Terry Dooley, followed his career since was it BritishBoxing.net or something?

Terry Got banned reading his twitter had a fall out with one of the mods
Re: Boxing Writers
Was Boxing Monthly - I think he had a pretty bad review some years back but more recently he had a positive review from the same reviewer, John Exshaw, who seems pretty fair. Think the book that got the positive review might have been Murderers Row?margaret thatcher wrote: ↑19 Nov 2019, 14:13 Tel Dooley of course![]()
