Oscar Valdez vs Andres Gutierrez

Post by handsofstone »

Valdez makes his Super Featherweight debut this week on BT top of the bill on the Frampton card, his Featherweight reign was pretty poor, Quigg probably the best win, still I think he's a good fighter, far from perfect but defo a quality fighter if a bit wreckless, still he's tough and hasnt been knocking guys out lately so has proven he can outbox guys over the distance albeit pretty shite guys but as I say the Quigg win was great, suffered a broken jaw and got hurt but still won wide on the cards

Gutierrez most known for being a bit slippy in the showers and knocking himself out, I seen him fight Mares a couple years back and he was alright, lost wide to a good boxer but he's far from the worst fighter ive seen, probably no worse than 90% of Valdez's challengers down at Feather

2 Mexicans, hopefully we get a wee tear up

Fights off as Gutierrez came in 11lbs overweight :o

Quite glad Gutierrez missed weight to be honest as Lopez performed very well and was definitely ahead on the cards before Valdez got him hurt and finished the job (maybe a slightly premature stoppage?). Lopez has a very useful jab and landed some neat uppercuts too, knockdown was great timing. The way Valdez takes shots I would worry for him vs a top 130-pounder like Berchelt, remember both these guys were stepping up from featherweight for this one.

Fair play to Lopez he gave Valdez a fright, I thought the stoppage was a bit pish if I'm honest, not the worst but still a bit early but I'm not surprised the ref was choking to stop it, heard him telling Lopez to show him something when he was firing back, I doubt he'd have been telling Valdez the same thing if the shoe was on the other foot, some start from Lopez though he dropped Valdez heavily in that 2nd round, lovely right hand/left uppercut, Valdez recovered well though but he was getting picked off with the jab of Lopez as well as eating a few right hands over the top

Valdez always dangerous though and got the breakthrough I the 7th, wobbled Lopez badly with a left and the right that put him down was partially blocked, as I say though Russell Mora was wanting to stop it and as soon as Valdez landed some clean punches he was right in there, they were big shots TBF but I thought it was a bit early, not vintage Valdez but still got Lopez out of there so credit

You reckon it was stopped early? It would have been tighter after that round on the cards though. Only one had Lopez ahead.

Valdez was ahead and it would have been more so, not tighter.

Ya defo early stoppage, definitely had the look of the ref being eager to stop it

Terrible stoppage. Referee panicked

Great talent is Lopez, hell of a performance

Valdez showed tremendous grit, they both did, but Lopez was robbed of his chance there
