Adam Kownacki vs. Robert Helenius - March 7, 2020

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Undefeated Polish heavyweight contender Adam Kownacki will headline a show from the Barclays Center on March 7 on Fox against an opponent still to be determined, PBC announced on its flagship program “Inside PBC Boxing.”

The return marks the first time Kownacki (20-0, 15 KOs) will return to the ring since unanimously decisioning Chris Arreola in an all-out slugfest last August that set a new heavyweight record with 667 combined punches landed in a fight. It also catapulted the heavyweight record for combined punches thrown with 2,172. The previous record was 1,730, set by Ike Ibeabuchi and David Tua in 1997, per CompuBox.

The development also means that the Brooklyn-based Kownacki, a PBC fighter, won’t co-headline the Deontay Wilder versus Tyson Fury card on Feb. 23.

Kownacki was in attendance as an interested observer for Wilder’s last fight against Luis Ortiz in Las Vegas in November, and PBC has one slot on the three-fight, pay-per-view undercard to stage its own fight.

The 30-year-old Kownacki, who has a 75 percent career KO ratio, is being built as a brand in Brooklyn and the east coast, where his following continues to grow. The March 7 bout will be his tenth fight at the Barclays Center. Out of his last 12 bouts, only two will have been held outside of the venue.

If PBC decides to stay in-house for an opponent, the likes of Ortiz, Andy Ruiz, Michael Hunter, Dominic Breazeale, Oscar Rivas, Efe Ajagba, Joe Joyce and Travis Kauffman top the list of viable opponents.

Andy Ruiz matchup is still the dream-fight. However, I doubt, that anyone, who lost the last bout, will face a rising contender. Hunter, despite having a hard fought draw, can take on, he's a tough mofo.

Kownacki now a headliner.

Was in a good fight last time out against Areola. Didn't disappoint.

We all know really, he's just waiting on a Deontay Wilder fight..

Who should he fight now though?

If Wilder beats Fury in their rematch, Kownacki will be given a shot at the WBC title.

If this happens, the proposed March 7th fight-date will either be cancelled or Kownacki will be matched-up against a journeyman or a well past-his-prime veteran with a decent name.

Minor point, but didn't Hunter sign with Matchroom USA?
He appears to be listed as a fighter for both matchroom and PBC

Also heard Rivas was close to signing on with Matchroom too

Personally I think it'll be Breazeale

Hunter is signed to Matchroom USA. They promote him.

He is probably still managed/advised by PBC. Just like Daniel Jacobs and a few others.

I hope it's Ruiz. Style wise, it would be a good watch. Both volume guys.
Brazeale dosent interest me in the slightest.
I guess we are limited to PBC?

Ruiz is a volume guy? I'd much rather see Dominick but we won't see Andy for years anyway.

Yeh, after the Parker loss, he went missing for over a year.

Yeah, I thought he was. Maybe he was against Parker and not AJ. I've watched the Parker fight a couple of 3 times, perhaps that's why I think Ruiz is a volume guy.
I would think both Kownacki and Ruiz if matched, would be a high output fight :maybe:

Ruiz fights in spots with combos. His output is averagish. He puts the shots together but waits around for a while between.

I'd think his output was below average.

Hunter would be ideal, but that seems like hoping too much.

If it’s this close to fight date and the opponent is still “ TBA” then I doubt it will be any of the above.. David Price or Mariusz Wach are what you’re probably looking at.

I think Kownacki needs an opponent that will make him relevant in the HW division. A fight vs Ortiz or Ruiz will be a big step in that direction. He has a good chance to beat Ruiz, but little chance to beat Ortiz, in my opinion. So, Ruiz it is!

I think Breazeale or Hunter fits the bill for lifting his profile. Without taking on anyone too dangerous like Ortiz or Ruiz Jr.

You need an American fighter with some sort of hype or recognition. Ortiz basically established himself through stopping Jennings coming off his first loss to Klitschko.

Breazeale's only losses so far are against Joshua and Wilder.

Hunter has hype, and his only loss is against Usyk, and has a solid draw against an aging Povetkin.
