The court heard that Nethery also had lacerations to her liver, spleen, lung, brain and two major blood vessels in her neck. Two skull-fracturing blows at the base of her neck punctured through to her brain.
A forensic pathologist had testified that any one of nine wounds on its own would have been fatal to Nethery, adding there was virtually no blood left in her body when it was examined.
