Best win of the last decade

Post by Ezzard »

Tough to call. Most of the big results were marred by controversy either by bad decisions or by dodgy catchweights etc...

So avoiding those fights in which there were bad decisions, bad stoppages, contractual stipulations... I think I'd go with

Marquez KO Pac
Fury W Klitschko
Wangek KO Gonzalez
Rigo W Donaire

Floyd over Manny & canelo would be the top 2.

Marquez over Pac trumps both surely. It was I think (from memory) 2-3 years before Mayweather's win. Marquez was closer in size to Pac and the win was a KO.

Why? I don't even think he won the first one.

Marquez KO6 Pacquaio is BY FAR the best.

I can't think of anything close.

You don't really believe Mayweather's win is better?

Absolutely, both of them. Floyd's win over Marquez might be #3.

I can't see a case since Mayweather was always the bigger man and it was a few years after Marquez brutally KO'd Pacquaio. Marquez was about 40 and moving up and further from his prime than Pacquaio. I don't see it being close. I'd also put Rigondeaux vs. Donaire over Floyd's best wins.

The end is just silly. Is a ko win always better than a decision? Floyd wasn't bigger than Manny by anything worth talking about and he absolutely clowned him, Marquez and canelo too. Obviously Marquez was a miles better fight and totally deserved after he got robbed in part 3, but he dominated the biggest fight of the decade, turns into best win. If Marquez was my all time favorite, I'd feel the same way. Gotta give you that.

Both of Floyds wins were good but personally I just felt it was a so so win over Pac and Canelo wasn’t the finished article, Ward was taking on a big challenge taking on an in form, confident, big hitter and bigger guy and thought he showed real balls and great ring IQ to snatch the first fight and get a stoppage in the second, I know there’s all the controversy but think Ward took a bigger risk than anyone else and pulled it off.

I don't see how wards risk was greater than fighting Canelo. Too each their own, I might have kov 2 in the top 10. Id rate the first one with canelo/ggg 1. Good losing performance with a bullshit decision.

Fair enough, don’t agree but it would be boring if we all had the same opinion about the sport👍

Kov deserved the W in the first Ward fight, too controversial to be the top win

:TU: my favorite fight of the decade was easily Morales/maidana. I was taking care of my pop at the time and he walked into the living room in the 5th Rd and I was crying. Wins/losses are valued too differently by most for me. Within the next 5 minutes he was cheering on Erik with me, at the final bell I said I don't give a fornicate who wins, that's the man right there! Ward definitely showed a lot in that rematch. Salud!

I know most on here won't ever give him credit, but canelo/GGG 2 is probably top 5.

Yes was a good fight, Maidana v Khan and Maidana v Broner I also liked and Froch gave me a couple of good nights against Bute and Groves 1

Marquez needed 4 chances to get one win over Pac.
A ko in a fight he was trailing on the cards and his face a bloodied mess when he landed the big shot.
Marquez had the most decisive win in the series but in four opportunities he scored just one win, neither man ever proved himself clear superior to the other.

Mayweather needed just one opportunity to decisively defeat Pac.

I'm not sure if I would call the Mayweather win best of the decade but certainly better than the JMM win because he didn't need multiple chances to get it.

I don't see the relevance of how many times it took it him when the question is the best win of the decade.
Pacquiao was a better fighter when he was fighting Marquez. The Mayweather-Pacquiao fight is almost meaningless.
