In the last few weeks, Top Rank staged two light heavyweight bouts with the idea of having the winners collide for the vacant WBO light heavyweight title.
Joe Smith powered past Jessie Hart for a dominant ten round decision, and a week later Eleider Alvarez scored a sensational knockout of Michael Seals.
But the World Boxing Organization shook up that plan - when they ordered a four man tournament to establish a new world champion.
Alvarez was ordered to face Gilberto Ramirez, who is the top rated challenger to the vacant belt. And Russian boxers Umar Salamov and Maxim Vlasov were ordered to collide in the second fight. The winners of the respective bouts would collide for the vacant title.
But promoter Yvon Michel of GYM, who co-promote Alvarez with Top Rank, explained that Ramirez is currently pricing himself out and likely won't take part in the tournament.
Ramirez, inactive since April 2019, is reportedly having issues with Top Rank. There is talk that Ramirez is attempting to buy out his contract to become a free agent.
If Ramirez is pulled from the fight, there is a chance that the WBO will allow Joe Smith to take his place in the tournament.
"The Ramirez clan is not keen on facing Eleider. They are asking for millions. We, at GYM and Top Rank, are still accepted the challenge presented by the WBO. And Ramirez has until 8:30 this morning to accept the [WBO's] order from his side and agree to negotiate," explained Michel to The Montreal Journal.

Surprise, surprise.
Zurdo prices himself out of a legit LHW matchup.
His team can probably muster up an easier shot. I guess they were hoping Hart would win so they could have a third fight
40 fights and they are still scared to match him hard.

Zurdo has had a crap career so far. He's still in his 20's.
I don't think there will be an easy route to a world title at LHW. This is a fight WBO ordered as part of a tournament to crown a new WBO world champion.

What are you on about? Zurdo is huge. Never a middleweight. And who’s to say he’ll never fight Canelo? TR promote Zurdo.boxingfan5101 wrote: ↑28 Jan 2020, 20:29 Eleider Alvarez is a natural light heavyweight, Gilberto Ramirez is a big middleweight that fights at super middleweight because he does not want to starve as the contract robbed him into negotiations that missed that Canelo fight for a peanut on DAZN over 8 fights... some booey poo.

Re: Eleider Alvarez's Promoter: Gilberto Ramirez Asking For Millions!
I’ve read recent reports conveying a rumour about the underachieving Gilberto Ramirez allegedly considering buying out his contract with Top Rank, which would be a very weird decision to make if the Mexican harbours ambitions to remain at 175lbs (considering all the big names in that division are either directly promoted by Bob Arum or affiliated with him in some way, such as Artur Beterbiev, Oleksandr Gvozdyk, Sergey Kovalev & Eleider Alvarez).
If this rumour comes to fruition, then perhaps Ramirez is considering signing-up with DAZN (via Matchroom or GBP) and also return to 168lbs, which would allow him to compete against the likes of Canelo, Golovkin, Smith, Saunders, Bivol etc.

Zurdo did it again, this time talking to Hearn regarding a potential Bivol fight:
