Roger Mayweather RIP

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

According to a report by TMZ, former world champion and veteran trainer Roger Mayweather has passed away at the age of 58. Mayweather's camp confirmed the passing.

Roger, the uncle of former five division world champion Floyd Mayweather, trained the superstar fighter for the bulk of his Hall of Fame career.

Roger's health has been declining for several years and became bad enough to force Mayweather to make a tough decision to obtain a new trainer - and he eventually reunited with father, also a veteran trainer, Floyd Mayweather Sr.

The exact cause of death and where he was found has not been revealed/

Mayweather had previously discussed his uncle's poor health in several interviews. He believes his uncle took too much punishment in the ring, which led to his lifelong injuries.

"My uncle Roger Mayweather has lost a lot of memory from the sport of boxing," Floyd said ... "He's only in his 50s but it seems like he's an old man in his 80s."

What a horrible month for Floyd Jr.

Sad to hear it for him and his family.

RIP. Very much enjoyed his fights. He fought some bona fide legends. A very sharp thin man with a stiff right. Edit - I also admired his jab.

I regard him as a legendary trainer - he helped foster a more aggressive/offensive Floyd Jr.

RIP Roger.

Enjoyed watching his fights in the 80’s on ITV. His win against Harold Brazier was particular good.

I enjoyed watching The Black Mamba fight. He always came prepared and in shape and and was a very entertaining fighter . He was a very good boxer with dynamite in his right hand, and he fought a lot of the best fighters of his era and beat a number of them.

RIP champ.
