Mike McCallum vs Carlos Monzon
Mike McCallum vs Carlos Monzon
Middleweight 15 rds
2 greats.
I don't doubt Monzons greatness at all.BUT I am sure of McCallums greatness.
I think Monzon has edge in power,McCallum in speed.
I'm sure to most Monzon is the favorite but I think McCallum beats him by a close but ud.

Monzon by UD. It was be a similar on Kalambay vs McCallum I.
Re: Mike McCallum vs Carlos Monzon
Monzon would win. He was more polished and would control this fight in his usual fashion.

This is King Carlos' weight class. Monzon by decision.
Re: Mike McCallum vs Carlos Monzon
Monzón either wide UD or late TKO. Close fight for a while

No offense to anyone, but can someone direct me to a video/s of Monzon where he is displaying this greatness? I've read and heard it for yrs but don't see it.
With a lot of greats, I wonder if it's actually nostalgia? Again no disrespect,I have always wondered because to me I can't see it.And not just Monzon but he's the subject here.

There is probably well over 100 rounds on YouTube on him on you tube for you to watch. I watched probably 6-7 of his title fights live when I was growing up.zuru wrote: ↑12 May 2020, 14:39 No offense to anyone, but can someone direct me to a video/s of Monzon where he is displaying this greatness? I like McCallum too. He was a great jr middleweight and a decent middleweight. IMO, he would have gotten punished by Monzón, who boxed in control but was absolutely relentless, and his right hand was just as potent if not more so than you remember McCallum’s being at 154. Monzón fought and beat fighters at 160 you may or may not recognize but he defended against the best. At least in his case, it has nothing to do with nostalgia because pretty much all of his title fights are available to watch, like McCallum’s

Re: Mike McCallum vs Carlos Monzon
I mentioned it before, Monzon often looks slow and to the eye you sometimes wonder how he was so effective, but he was.
McCallum was obviously really good but has turned into a bit of a cult like guy with a following that seemed to think he was ducked by everyone and actually some type of super atg who was right up there with the absolute elitest of them. I don't think so

The great Mike McCallum was very, very good! ESPECIALLY, at 154lbs.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑12 May 2020, 16:50 I mentioned it before, Monzon often looks slow and to the eye you sometimes wonder how he was so effective, but he was.

Re: Mike McCallum vs Carlos Monzon
Kalamby was a slippery boxer,i think quite a bit more mobile than Monzon.I have seen everything available on youtube and just have a hard time seeing eliteness even though everything I've ever read or heard describe him as.And yes he does appear slow and awkward at times.
BUT I'm the 1st to admit outside the ring and inside are night and day and his record speaks for itself.
As for McCallum,I've watched every fight available same as Monzon and I do consider him a great though not due to a cult following ,just the fact that he was a top level fighter and I can't see him being ko'd at 154 or 160.
I do think he was avoided maybe not as much as claimed but he was definitely a high risk opponent when less talented more monied opponents were available.
But the fact that Monzon is modern day and highly regarded says a lot compared to fighters from 100 yrs ago that little or no footage is available of.
It was just a question I had.

Monzon by strong UD. Mike starts out strong by down the stretch, finds out that this is Carlos Monzon he is in with.
