He had several serious injuries. Lost a ton of weight. Was not expected to ever fight again. He made a comeback but was never the same. He fought for several years. Most all of the knockdowns that you keep bringing up were after he was literally shot.

Take a look at Ezzard Charles record sometimes. count the knockdowns. Then look when most of them were.

He was literally pulled out of the crowd the night of the fight. He had no idea he was even fighting that night. Unclear if he even had his trainer there.
