Sky Sports Bias!!!

Post by JamieM »

Enough is enough, last night was a complete farce. These guys are within ear shot of judges at moment and the complete nonsense they were spouting was nothing short of a disgrace. Matthew Macklin for an ex fighter doesnt have a clue what he is talking about. They are insulting the fighters during the fight and think they have a god given right to do it, shut up and commentate on the fight and not about lack of discipline etc. Johnny Nelson calling Sam Egginton a gate keeper after that loss, is he for real he lost a shed load of fights.

I have never been a fan of the commentary on sky after the hired Darren Barker to do Martin J Ward v Ronnie Clark, he was that bad he apologised the day after on twitter. Refusing to acknowledge body work and lauding everything.

They need neutrals in NOW. I'd like to see Paulie Malignaggi and Andy Lee. Dave Coldwell used to be half decent but has towed the company line.

I love Barker on comms! He’s the only one who seems to be genuinely sat there just enjoying the fights. I haven’t seen the fight you mentioned, was he just badly unprepared?

Agree with the rest, although this really wasn’t their worst one. Been going on too long now and everyone wants it to change. At least let us opt out with the red button.

Were they definitely ringside? I didn't see all the show but don''t recall seeing them all night. Wherever they were sat I did wonder if the judges could hear them. If so then that might have explained why one of the judges handed in a scorecard for Gill-Bellotti that read Barrera 96 Morales 94.

Macklin just seems to spout the same sh1t round after round. Did he mention that Gwynne was durable? I never noticed :maybe:

And Smith has him on a lead. “Blah blah blah isn’t It Matt?” Making him agree with all his fckin unrelated dribble. Nauseating. That was the first time in ages i had the sound on. It will be the last.

Darren Barker is Martin J Wards best mate. It's like me commentating for Ronnie Clark its complete bias, he said the day after he shouldnt have commentated on the fight. I havnt heard much of barker after it to be fair hes usually on the floor.

The commentary was in a zone down a bit but they are shouting and the place isnt big, 100 percent they can be heard. It's when they have wardley the first round against vallily it's just not possible.

I cant stand macklin I spend my night getting deja vu, just a complete parrot. Take adam smith out too.

I feel really sorry for the boxers. Sadly they all tow the company line including kugan Cassius. They all try to hard and come across fake, Jonny Nelson being the worst. No who would be excellent to get involved and isnt to high profile. John thain from Edinburgh. he talks well and is an anorak knows everything about boxing. I also dont believe he could be bought and would call it the way he seen it. Last night I found myself wondering if they could even see the fights, for people who have been around boxing they didnt quite understand that when a shot hits the guard it will still make a sound.

Does john thain still fight? Hes the thai fighter? You are correct but they just want former world champion cheerleaders. Its 50% cheerleading and 50% analysis. Just put it on mute

John has phillipino routes and is kinda on the periphery of boxing. Hes made to go into media if you ask me, such a nice person and just infectious. I also like Alex Arthur on comms too, but he can be a bit of a narcissist and always deflects back to himself which is annoying really, but sky love that and that's why froch, macklin, barker etc grate on me. I would love to see maybe a combination of malignaggi and Arthur, or even bring in someone like Anthony ogogo and audley Harrison. These guys speak well and have had up and down careers and witnessed both sides of boxing so are more likely to be impartial rather than tow the line. Maybe I am looking to much into it haha

The whole Sky coverage is horrendous, just the same Matchroom puppets refusing to criticise Matchroom fighters. Smith making himself main commentator was the final straw and Macklin can’t even string a sentence together. Paulie was the only decent one.

Carl Froch is by far the most outrageous appointment by Sky, he pretty much acknowledges he knows nothing about boxing outside of his own career. Like when he picked Chisora to beat Pulev because "I've never heard of Pulev"

Adam Smith pushing him on who the best bantamweight in the world was a good one. He literally couldn't name a single one. Great fighter but come on ffs.

He’s stealing a living. He’s hardly on Sky now. Even they know it’s like asking the Cheeky Girls to talk about nuclear physics.

They aren’t commentators or pundits, they’re salesmen paid to trot out pre scripted lines.

On a positive note it was a relief to watch a Sky card without the whole Smith family freeloading at ringside and the obligatory Smith tribute to “this extraordinary fighting family”

One thing I will say, to produce 4 sons from Brit to world level, Smithy Sr. obviously had some good seed. Or I guess Ms. Smith coulda been a mean fighter too
