A really close fight that went spilt-decision. One of those that raises a couple of the routine debates in boxing scoring: how do you factor activity vs hard shots in assessing overall damage? Does a knockdown automatically mean a 10-8 round?
I have Tug a 10-9 in round one because, although he had the knockdown, he hardly did anything else. By contrast, Breedy had a very good round but for being knocked down. Tug did more overall damage, but not to the effect that he deserved a 10-8 round. I don’t think a fighter gets a 10-8 round automatically. That’s not what the rules say. And we should reserve the 10-9 for some situations. Tonight was one of those rare occasions.
Breedy won a lot of rounds on all scorecard simply by outworking Tug and consistently landing an effective jab.
113-113, could definitely see it going to Breedy, a lot of hard rounds to score because Tug would have some bursts where he'd rattle Breedy a bit with sharp shots, but then pretty much all of the remainder he'd do nothing and Breedy would outwork and out land him
Tug to me looked a harder hitter and more skillful, but Breedy seemed to want it a lot more and I was hoping he'd get the decision, unfortunetly those kds were too much on the cards

in latinoamerica broadcast, Fernando Barbosa (WBC official judge) said exactly the same as you about round 1.
and about the cards, totally agree. very close fight imo
I think I had it 115-111 Tug or something around there.
It was a sort of close but not very exciting fight, and considering Tug was the A-side I was shocked the cards were that close. Breedy was active but didn't land a lot of consequential looking punches.

I thought it was a good scrap. Breedy didn’t have much of consequence but his jab was very effective. I think it was getting to Tug. I’d watch him box again.

Yea coming in I thought he was a nobody with a puffy undefeated record who would get steamrolled. I was surprised when he worked himself back into the fight after the 2 early knockdowns. He deserves another shot at a TV fight at least. Maybe a step-up fight for Conlan?
