At the end of the program the host said that there was a movie about Jack Dempsey to be made and the studio was asking for potential actors to send their photographs in. Did this movie ever get made?

No it never got off the ground,but I had heard it was actor Stuart Whitman who was going to produce and also play Dempsey in it.
