• Has Jermell Charlo done enough to be classed amongst the top-ten pound-for-pounders?
• Has Jermell Charlo already cleared out the 154lbs divisions, due to the fighters he’s beaten holding victories over the other top-ten light middleweights?
• Are there any more decent bouts for him if he remains at 154lbs?
Personally, in terms of accomplishments, I think he’s done enough to replace Artur Beterbiev or Tyson Fury (depending on whether you’re looking at The RING or ESPN’s pound-for-pound ratings).
And also, if we review the landscape at 154lbs:
• Jermell Charlo has beaten Jeison Rosario, Tony Harrison & Erickson Lubin. He also holds the WBC, WBA super, IBF & Ring championships. He has competed in six world title bouts, with four of his fights against former or current world champions.
• Jeison Rosario defeated Julian Williams.
• Julian Williams defeated Jarrett Hurd.
• Jarrett Hurd defeated Tony Harrison and Erislandy Lara, with the Cuban fortunate to gain a draw in his highly-competitive bout against Brian Carlos Castano.
• Michel Soro lost his bout against Brian Carlos Castano.
A decent analogy would be a daisy-chain of resumes, whereby Jermell has either beaten or proven himself better than the vast majority of his 154lbs peers (by being the man that beat the man).
I can't imagine Jermall Charlo trying to gain Patrick Teixeira's WBO title, because the PBC generally doesn't recognise that organisation, nobody knows who he is, he is a GBP fighter and Teixeira will likely become an opponent for Terence Crawford in the near future.
So I don’t see any reason for Jermell Charlo to remain at 154lbs, without his career treading water.
