I doubt any Strawweight fighter will ever get much attention.

Hell I wouldn't doubt that Mayweather is the more well known of the two fighters even in Thailand.

I've seen maybe 5 or 6 Strawweight fights in my entire life, and I've watched Boxing religiously for 2 decades.

It just doesn't get any attention, and at this point, I frankly don't care about that.

At one time I would've wanted to see more of these guys, now I've come to realize I ain't missing much.

It's not some conspiracy that he's not as well known as FMJ. 105 is the thinnest division in the sport. At least 50 of those wins were against nobodies.

Yea but it's really, really thin these days. Like much more so than when I started following the sport closely back in 2003. You can't even make a top 10 without including a few guys of really questionable quality. A washed 37 year old version of Joyi is still ranked #5 by BoxRec. He hasn't won a meaningful fight since 2012.

I watched Knockout CP Freshmart fight Live from Thailand at about 3 or 4 AM one morning. I was struck by how different the event looked in Thailand, and how up front the Sponsors were.

I remember seeing Miguel Barrera vs Roberta Leyva in 2002 I believe.

That's about it.

Back in the day Polish fighters used to have temp tattoos of sponsors on their back.

In Thailand they actually had old guys holding signs with the Sponsors name on it, that they introduced and pointed out before the fights started.

Is there any reason a Menayothin vs. Freshmart unification doesn't happen in Thailand? I have no idea what the promotional landscape is like over there.

They are both backed by the same financial group. It's in their best interest to keep the guys apart. A unification bout is great if fighters can draw more for unified champion, but in reality having these two guys unify take the teams from being able to get 2 sets of paydays to a single one.

Given both are also backed by CP Freshmart, they would cut their marketing reach from the sport, so won't want them to unify.

I wouldn't say Povetkin is washed up. He's 41 but HWs often age better than smaller guys. He didn't even seem to hit his prime until his mid-30s and he has multiple solid wins in recent years.
