The real reason Joyce v Dubios is no longer PPV?

Just 3 days ago we got confirmation the fight was no longer on PPV. Frank stated “This is about keeping boxing alive and relevant at a tough time and doing something for the fans and we have moved heaven and earth to put this on as a BT Sport subscription Fight Night instead.” A nice surprise.

Today we get news that the Premier League have agreed a deal with BT and Sky to show games on a PPV starting this month. The games will be costing £14.99 each and will mainly feature on a Saturday.

Talks have apparently been taking place between the Premier League and the broadcasters for over a week to agree this deal.

I suspect BT have known this was going to be the likely outcome for days now. They've probably said to Frank they are almost certain to be showing a live PPV Premier League game on 28th November. Too much hassle trying to sort out the logistics of selling 2 PPV's on the same date on the same channel etc...

Forget Joyce vs Dubios being moved for the fans, more likely it's being moved for the football.

The football is only for the next 3 rounds of fixtures and given the coverage today maybe it won't last that long. If it does though it could affect all the boxing PPV's if people decide to choose football on a Saturday night

I loved this game as a kid , despise all the money being banded about , it's insane !!.
Pay premiership footballers sensible wages , stop agents milking it.
It's the lower level leagues I feel for , there will be many casualties if the elite don't pass some of their wealth on .

I wouldn’t be so sure, even in the Championship they used to completely collapse in the second half of the season, COVID helped them get promotion with the long break.

Yeah as beetle said the season ticket holders remain out of pocket.


Personally I might be able to get on board with this if the proceeds are used to support the football league clubs and lower leagues as well.

I think a stat a few years ago said the premier league clubs could still make a profit without crowds at all. That may we’ll not quite be the case today but your lower league clubs are gonna be buggered pure and simple. If this ends up generating a lot of money I wouldn’t want it just going to the premier league clubs even tho I support a premier league club.

Surely clubs will just have to sort out an arrangement with season ticket holders.

I’m a season ticket holder at a Championship club - last season we got a full refund for all games we couldn’t attend due to COVID plus a free stream for all home + away games after the restart, then this season we’re getting a full credit against next season’s renewal price for all games missed (with the option of deducting £10 per game to stream home matches).

So it can easily be done, just pure greed. But who can be surprised by the Premier League being greedy?

I’m surprised that Leeds fans have had to buy a season ticket for a season when attending matches is far from certain.

I’m a Man City season ticket holder and no season tickets have been made available this season. Should fans be allowed back into games tickets will be distributed using a ballot system and a pro rata payment based on the price of last year’s ticket will be taken.
