Murat Gassiev Won't Renew Promotional Agreements; Now being sued

Murat Gassiev Not Happy, Won't Renew Promotional Agreements

According to the TASS media agency, the former unified WBA, IBF cruiserweight champion of the world, Murat Gassiev, is about to change his promotional situation.

“My contract with the present promoters has come to an end. I’m not going to renew the agreement, because they haven’t performed in good faith with it. I haven’t been getting fights. I’m presently obtaining a license [in Russia], and I’m getting ready for a fight on October 31 in Sochi," said Gassiev (26-1, 19 KOs) to TASS.

Gassiev, who just turned 27 years old on Monday, is about to make his heavyweight debut at the “Stoloto Boxing Festival” against Albanian Sefer Seferi (24-3-1, 22 KOs) at the WOW Arena in the resort district of Krasnaya Polyana.

Seferi is a recent replacement for heavyweight veteran journeyman Kevin “The Kingpin” Johnson, who was first scheduled to fight Murat. Johnson withdrew after having issues with his passport.

Gassiev was previously co-promoted in a partnership between Warriors Boxing and Ural Boxing Promotions. He hasn’t been seen in the ring for over two years - with his last fight being a spirited but losing effort against Oleksandre Usyk in the World Boxing Super Series Season 1 Finale in Moscow, Russia.

The Russian fighter had to undergo shoulder surgery, and his fights have been rescheduled and/or cancelled several times during this time span.

I don’t understand this..

1) it doesn’t mention Matchroom at all.. was his contract with them co-promotional? Full promotion?

2) I take it Matchroom Are not involved in this.

3) it doesn’t actually mention which promoters he’s referring to.

4) It mentions his previous promoters.

5) Is he referring to ‘Local’ promoters?

I'm sure his promoters are equally pleased with his activity and money production.

He signed with Matchroom during April of last year,

I don’t know if this was a co-promotional agreement or not.

He’s a sack of shit. He pulled out of 3 scheduled fights with me. I don’t believe he is with matchroom anymore. I think Hearn realizes he wasn’t going to fight. He owes me some money :TU: :TU:

Murat Gassiev Sued By Warriors, Ural For Breach of Contract

Last week, former unified WBA, IBF cruiserweight champion Murat Gassiev announced his status as a free agent - advising media outlets in Russia that his promotional agreements with Warriors Boxing and Ural Boxing Promotions have expired.

Gassiev is scheduled to fight on October 31 in Sochi, Russia.

The Russian boxer has been out of the ring for over two years - with his last fight being a twelve round decision loss to Oleksandr Usyk in the final round of the World Boxing Super Super Series cruiserweight tournament.

Gassiev blamed his inactivity on co-promoters Warriors and Ural.

On Monday, Warriors and Ural filed a lawsuit in Broward County in Florida. The lawsuit names the following defendants - Gassiev, manager/promoter Vlad Hyrunov, Patriot Promotions, the Russian Boxing Federation (RBF), and RBF officer Umar Kremlev.

Boxing Scene has obtained a copy of the lawsuit documents.

According the legal claims - Hyrunov, Patriot and Kremlev conspired to steer Gassiev away from Warriors and Ural. Warriors and Ural allege that similar attempts were made by the defendants in the past.

Warriors and Ural had sent a legal letter to the defendants in February of 2019, warning them to cease their contractual interference with Gassiev.

Gassiev is being sued for breach of contract, with the claim being that his existing contracts have a lot of time remaining.

Warriors and Ural also outline several fights where Gassiev withdrew due to injury or training issues - and the numerous withdrawals would in effect extend his agreement even further.

The promotional agreement was originally set to expire on December 14, but two years of inactivity has extended the expiration date until at least 2022, according to Warriors and Ural.

In the legal documents, Warriors and Ural provided several emails where Gassiev withdrew from planned fights due to injuries. And, most recently, an email from earlier this year where Gassiev withdrew from a planned fight in February. In that situation, Gassiev cited issues with his training camp and advised the promoters that he was unable to get ready in time to make the date.
