Chocolatito, Estrada Look Forward To Rematch War in 2021

Super flyweight world champions Juan Francisco 'Gallo' Estrada and Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez are ready for a rematch in 2021, as long as the money meets their expectations.

A unification battle is what they are looking for, to put aside any doubts about who is the best fighter at the weight.

On Friday night in the Mexican capital, both champions ended up with their hands raised.

Estrada got off the canvas to score a knock of Carlos Cuadras in eleven rounds, and Gonzalez won a twelve round unanimous decision over Israel Gonzalez.

"I felt very good, thanking God for giving me strength. Being in Mexico was a very beautiful experience. I'm thankful to God because we are in good health. We know that everyone is waiting for the fight between Gallo and myself. We hope that it takes place next year. And first of all, congratulations (to Estrada), good job," said Gonzalez, according to ESPN Deportes.

Estrada returned the kind words in kind.

"I want to congratulate (Chocolatito) too, a great job. All of the people are waiting for the fight and hopefully it will happen next year. God first. We both won, which is what we wanted, what the people wanted. We both gave a great show and I think we deserve that fight. I do want (the rematch), we are going to wait for the promoters... they will tell us how much we'll be paid and the fight is made," Estrada said.

Early talks indicate a date in March, April or May for the rematch.

A second fight comes more than eight years after the confrontation they had in November 2012 at junior flyweight, where Gonzalez won a twelve round decision.

Both boxers will look to obtain seven figure paydays in a second fight.

Gallo and Chocolatito first fought in 2012..

You could say Gallo is currently fighting at his peak?

Gonzalez isn't there any more, has had tought battles and many said super fly was a weight too far.

He has done well since his Rungvisai defeats..

Not at his peak anymore. but can still bang and perform at an elite level.

I don't think it's as easy as a Gallo win.. Cuadras gave him a good going last weekend..

Thoughts on this?

I hope this happens. It is going to be amazing, nonetheless; I have Chocolatito winning by pressure.

The rematch is all but inked on paper. It’s a tough one to predict, but I don’t think Choc wins it based on what I saw Saturday night. He looked vulnerable at times early on against much weaker competition than Estrada. Meanwhile Estrada held off a very tough opponent in Cuadras who was determined to go out on his shield. He looked sharper and faster. And more capable of doing big damage.

thought roman bossed izzy tbh

jfe has what it takes to beat a roman who might not be quite what he was, but needs to ensure a good start, he can give away lots of rounds and once again showed first half vulnerability

I favour Estrada. I acknowledge that Choc is looking very good but not as good as he was a few years ago.

115 pound division is so incredibly loaded. Winner of hopefully made fight Moloney-Franco III would be a good challenge for winner of this fight as well or rebound fight for loser.

Ioka vs Sor on the other side of the bracket ain’t bad. I’d like to see Ioka vs winner of this fight more than anything.

Chocolatito Training Hard, Expects Tough Rematch With Estrada

Nicaraguan star Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez, who holds the WBA's super flyweight championship, is training diligently for the rematch against WBC super flyweight champion Francisco “El Gallo” Estrada of Mexico.

Gonzalez is preparing at the Roger Deshon gym in Managua, Nicaragua. The workouts involve long daily runs and nibbling at a nutritious balanced diet.

This long-awaited unifying contest will be a long-awaited battle between the two warriors.

They first met on November 17, 2012 in Los Angeles, at junior flyweight. Gonzalez walked away with a unanimous decision victory.

The rematch will take place on March 13, at a location to be determined.

In 2020, Gonzalez (50-2, 41 KOs) got his career back on track with a big stoppage win over Kal Yafai to capture the WBA strap. He then retained the title with a decision win over Israel Gonzalez.

The string of wins catapulted his career to the upper tier of the weight class after suffering back to back defeats at the hands of Srisaket Sor Rungvisai.

In the last few days, Gonzalez discussed certain aspects of his preparation for this rematch with journalists from Canal 13 and Canal 2 in Nicaragua.

“We will have our training camp in Riverside, California and it’s good. For now we have been training to stay active but in the next few days we will travel over there. The first fight was very good, a great fight, where we both showed quality. We are going to arrive in great condition to face Estrada,” Gonzalez said.

Chocolatito's training team consists of coach Marcos Caballero, his father Luis González, manager Carlos Blandón and physical trainer Rafael Rojas.

The four division champion anticipates a very tough outing when they meet for the second time.

“It is not an easy fight, a very tough battle for both of us and we are going to do our best to put on a good show,” Gonzalez said.

An interesting time in these guys' careers to have this rematch. Things have changed since 2012. Will be interesting to see how the fight plays out this time. I suspect it'll be another excellent fight whoever comes out on top.

Estrada Motivated To Knock Roman Gonzalez Out, Leave No Doubt

“I am confident that I already know Chocolatito. I will be very different from the first time, since a long time has passed. I'm preparing not only to win, but to get a knockout because I don't want to leave any doubts,” declared Estrada to Erika Montoya.

"I hope that Roman (Gonzalez) is training hard so that it is a fight that remains in history because I'm bringing a lot of motivation and more so now that I just got married," added Estrada.

Roman Gonzalez Not Bothered By Estrada's KO Vow, Aims To Showcase Skills

"I am very happy, very happy. I think there is nothing to continue demonstrating. I feel that I have already reached the top of what I had to achieve, I reached my dream of being world champion. I am very happy because God has helped me to be where I am and I feel very satisfied with everything," said Gonzalez.

"I already know how he boxes, everything is going to be seen from the moment the bell rings. It is really going to be a very tough fight and you are going to see that when the fight happens. When you prepare the best you can physically and mentally - you do things well at the moment of the fight. Everything will be seen at the moment of the fight. We will fight with great intelligence, throwing punches. The important thing is to be in good condition, that is what will help me at the time of the fight," Gonzalez said.

"I am the type of opponent who doesn't like to talk a lot, I like to wait until the moment of the fight," said Gonzalez.
