Bohachuck-Adams on 12/3, Conwell-Ashkeyev on 12/17, NBCSN

Ring City USA, the new sports media startup that debuts its Thursday night boxing series Nov. 19 on NBC Sports Network, announced the main events for its second and third fight nights, to take place on Dec. 3 and Dec. 17 respectively. Undefeated blue-chip super welterweight prospect Serhii Bohachuck (18-0, 18 KO’s) meets former middleweight Interim Title Challenger Brandon Adams (21-3, 13 KO’s) in a 10-round main event on Dec.3, while the undefeated 2016 Olympian Charles Conwell (13-0, 10 KO’s) faces Madiyar Ashkeyev (14-0, 7 KO’s) in a 10-round super welterweight matchup.

All three of Ring City’s events in 2020 will be broadcast live from Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach’s Wild Card Boxing Gym in Los Angeles.

In Dec. 3 undercard action, rising welterweight prospect Brian Ceballo (11-0, 6 KO’s) will clash with once-beaten Larry Gomez (10-1, 8 KO’s) in the 10-round co-main event. In heavyweight female action, 2019 World Championships Gold Medalist Danielle Perkins (1-0, 1 KO) will fight the undefeated Princess Hairston (1-0, 1 KO) in a six-round matchup.

"We are excited about the quality of the fights Ring City is delivering to fight fans,” said Head of Boxing Evan Rutkowski. “As a developmental platform, our mission is to put together the most competitive matches that challenge our fighters and entertain viewers. Bohachuck-Adams and Conwell-Ashkeyev are two matchups that we are confident will meet those goals.”

The hard-hitting Bohachuck has steamrolled through opposition on his way to an 18-0 record, all of which have come via knockout. Bohachuk, who trains with Manny Robles out of Legends Boxing Academy, proved himself with a knock-out win over Tyrone Brunson in October of 2019. Most recently, he put on an electric performance in September when he knocked out Alejandro Davila in six rounds out of Mexico. The Ukrainian-born Bohachuck, who is promoted by Tom Loeffler at 360 Promotions and Ural Boxing, continues to take the Southern California boxing world by storm with his dominant performances in the ring and magnetic personality out of the ring.

“I’m looking forward to fighting Brandon Adams; He’s an experienced challenger who has already fought for the world title and I am up for this challenge,” Bohachuk said. “I appreciate Ring City giving me this opportunity to fight on NBCSN from the legendary Wild Card Gym.”

The battle-tested Adams, who hails from Watts, C.A. and works with accomplished trainer Dub Huntley, challenged WBC Middleweight Titleholder Jermall Charlo for the title in 2019 after defeating Shane Mosley Jr. to win the Epix Television Series “The Contender.” Adams boasts a formidable group of sparring partners, including Shawn Porter and Gennadiy Golovkin. Adams, who went professional inside of two years, is known for his fast rise within boxing. He started competitively training at age 19, fought his first amateur fight at age 20 and turned professional at age 21. Adams’ return to the ring Dec. 3 will be his first fight since his June 2019 matchup with Charlo. He is promoted by Banner Promotions and Tournament of Contenders.

“I appreciate this challenge,” Adams said. “Bohachuck’s team thinks he is ready to fight at the top level and my team is confident that I am already fighting at that level with the top fighters in the sport.”

Cleveland native Conwell, who competed in the men’s 2016 Summer Olympics middleweight event as an amateur, returned to the ring for the first time this year in February when he scored a fifth-round stoppage against Ramses Agaton. Known for his decisive punching power, Conwell recently capped off an impressive performance in the Oct. 7 main event of ShoBox: The New Generation with an eruptive knockout of Wendy Toussaint. A swift uppercut in the ninth round ended the contest and broke Toussaint’s nose in a fight that Conwell was comfortably winning. The highly touted super welterweight contender who is promoted by DiBella Entertainment, also reached a pivotal moment this year when he welcomed a daughter earlier this fall to become a first-time father.

“I’m happy to be getting right back in the ring to show my skill, class and dominance on NBC Sports Network,” Conwell said.

Ashkeyev, who fights out of boxing hotbed Oxnard by way of his native Kazakhstan, returns to face Conwell a year after his last fight in which he stopped Rodolfo Martinez at the end of the fifth round. Ashkeyev was an excellent amateur who participated in the World Series of Boxing. The undefeated Ashkeyev is promoted by Main Events and managed by Egis Klimas.

“I am very happy to have the chance to fight on NBCSN,” Ashkayev said. “I will be ready to make a big statement in my first televised main event in the United States and have waited a long time to show everyone what I can do.”

In Dec. 3 undercard action, former Olympic hopeful Ceballo, who is promoted by 360 Promotions, faces off against Gomez in a clash of welterweights. Perkins, who is the most recent U.S. Amateur World Champion boxer since Claressa Shields in 2016, is a formidable fighter who played Division I basketball at George Mason University and St. John’s University followed by a stint playing basketball professionally in Europe. Her basketball career came to an end when she suffered debilitating injuries after being hit by a car in 2008. The 6-foot southpaw made her professional boxing debut in 2014 after an impressive amateur career. She is managed by longtime boxing executive Mark Taffet, who has also guided Shields throughout her career. Perkins faces Hairston, who will fight just her second professional fight after winning her debut via knockout in July of 2019.

Ring City fights will air live on NBC Sports Network on Thursday nights at 9pm EST/6pm PST.

Ring City USA Series To Return Feb. 25, Bohachuk vs. Adams To Top First Show

Boxing’s latest fight night series is set for its 2021 run.

Ring City USA is set to return to NBC Sports Network, armed with working dates of February 25 and March 11 to kick off the new year, sources have informed BS.com. The 2021 launch will be headlined by a repurposed main event, as unbeaten Ukrainian knockout artist Serhii Bohachuk (18-0, 18KOs) will face Brandon Adams (21-3, 13KOs) atop the February 25 show, to air on NBC Sports Network from a location to be determined.

News of the main event was first reported by Steve Kim, co-host of The 3 Knockdown Rule podcast.

The rescheduled bout was due to take place last December 3rd, atop the second of the series’ introductory three-show block. Bohachuk was forced to withdraw after having tested positive for COVID-19.

Adams remained on the show, facing late replacement Sonny Duversonne whom he stopped inside of two rounds in a makeshift venue outside of the Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood, California. The famed gym—owned and operated by Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach—housed the first three shows of the promoter-agnostic series.

A new venue is being sought for the 2021 season premiere, as well as for a planned March 11 show, according to sources. At least four more shows are being planned before shutting down for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics which have been rescheduled to take place this summer.

NBC serves as the primary broadcaster for the Summer Olympics, running on all NBC Universal platforms including NBC Sports Network which re-entered the boxing business last November.

Evan Rutkowski, head of boxing for Ring City USA previously told BS.com at the start of the series that there remained a commitment in place to air a minimum of 14 shows and with a strong commitment of featuring competitive, no-strings attached televised bouts. Shows will continue to run on Thursday evenings, as a concentrated effort to not compete with other platforms and rather for now serve as a feeder series to “the big four” in the U.S.—Fox (prime), ESPN, Showtime and DAZN.

Of course, that’s not to say the series can’t grow into something bigger. For now, the intention is to provide a gateway for prospects to advance to the contender level. Adams figures to be a rare repeat headliner on the series, if only to settle unfinished business.

Bohachuk—who is promoted by Tom Loeffler and trains out of Big Bear, California—will fight for the first time since a stay-busy knockout win last September in Merida, Mexico. The bout served as his lone fight of 2020, with the coronavirus shutting down plans for a fight intended for last spring before the infectious virus directly impacted him by year’s close.

Ring City USA Returns With 2 Cards In March From Puerto Rico; Serrano-Bermudez Could Be Third

Ring City USA will return with a series of cards on Thursdays in March from Puerto Rico on NBC Sports Network, the promoter-agnostic, upstart boxing organization announced Friday.

On March 4, Serhii Bohachuk (18-0, 18 KOs) will faceoff against former middleweight title challenger Brandon Adams (22-3, 13 KOs) in a 10-round super welterweight main event. The fight was originally scheduled to headline a Dec. 3 Ring City event at the Wild Card Boxing Club in Los Angeles but Bohachuk contracted COVID-19 and had to withdraw from the fight. Adams ended up knocking out Sanny Duversonne instead.

On March 18, former champion Alberto Machado (22-2, 18 KOs) will fight undefeated rising prospect Hector Tanajara (19-0, 5 KOs) in a 10-round lightweight main event.

On March 25, in an event that has not yet been announced but is an advanced negotiations, Puerto Rican boxer champion Amanda Serrano (39-1-1, 29 KOs) will take on 126-pound titlist Daniela Bermudez (29-3-3, 10 KOs) in a featherweight unication match.

Serrano promoter Lou Dibella told Boxing Scene that the fight is in serious discussions and is in the works toward being finalized.

“It’s far from done,” said Dibella.

Kevin Iole of Yahoo! Sports was first to report of the potential women’s clash on Friday.

“We are thrilled to kick off 2021 with two crossroads main event fights in Puerto Rico,” said head of boxing Evan Rutkowski. “Serhii Bohachuk has been chomping at the bit to get back in the ring and on March 4 he will meet the most dangerous opponent of his career in Brandon Adams. Then two weeks later we are right back on NBC Sports Network and Twitch with rising undefeated prospect Hector Tanajara battling former world champion Alberto Machado of Puerto Rico in a classic Mexico vs. Puerto Rico rivalry fight.”

All of the Ring City USA cards will start at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT and stream worldwide on Twitch.

Ring City plans on putting on a total of 14 shows in 2021.

Press Release | Venue

Ring City USA, the new sports media startup that debuted its Thursday night boxing series in November 2020 on NBC Sports Network, will take over Puerto Rico in less than one month to kick off their 2021 schedule. The March 4 event will take place at Felix Pagan Pintor Gym in Guaynabo, while the March 18 event will be held at the Albergue Olimpico (Olympic Center) in Salinas. Ring City will close out its three-event residency in Puerto Rico on March 25 at a location to be announced at a later date.

Both events will be televised in the United States and Puerto Rico on NBC Sports Network and the NBC Sports app on Thursday nights at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT with undercard action streaming live on Twitch. The full card will be available on Twitch outside of the United States.

Ring City will be welcomed to the island by two Puerto Rican legends, Miguel Cotto and Ivan Calderon, who will serve as ambassadors for the boxing outfit. Since retiring from their storied careers inside the ring, the former world champions have embarked on a mission to grow the sport outside of it. The two men fought on cards together in Puerto Rico during their fighting careers and now will join forces with Ring City to deliver top notch events to millions on NBC Sports Network and Twitch.

"We are very excited and proud that Ring City USA will showcase events from my beautiful island of Puerto Rico,” said Cotto. “We have such a rich history in the sport of boxing. This is exciting for boxing, it’s such a great opportunity for boxers to highlight their talent on NBC Sports Network. I can't wait for the month of March to come.”

Cotto, 40, was affectionately known as the “Pride of Puerto Rico” during his professional career and has worked to represent the island’s next generation of fighters with his company Cotto Promotions. During his 17-year professional career, Cotto captured six world titles in four different weight classes and took on all challengers with his fearless pursuit of greatness. He won his first world title in Puerto Rico and toppled world champions such as Shane Mosley, Antonio Margarito, Sergio Martinez and Paulie Malignaggi as he moved up from super lightweight to middleweight. Cotto represented Puerto Rico at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games.

"First of all, I want to thank Ring City USA for thinking about Puerto Rico and making the first show in my hometown of Guaynabo City,” said Calderon. “It makes me very proud because the show will be at my house and where our story was built.”

Calderon, 46, has taken a prominent role in the youth boxing program on the island and has trained dozens of fighters in his hometown of Guaynabo since retiring from boxing in 2012. Calderon, known as “Iron Boy” inside of the ring, had dominant title reigns in the mini flyweight and light flyweight divisions from 2003 to 2010. He fought 22 of his 39 professional fights in Puerto Rico, including four fights in Guaynabo. Prior to his accomplished professional career, Calderon also represented Puerto Rico at the 2000 Games.

The March 4 event at Felix Pagan Pintor Gym will feature a main event between undefeated blue-chip rising star Serhii Bohachuk (18-0, 18 KOs) and former middleweight title challenger Brandon Adams (22-3, 13 KOs) in a 10-round super welterweight affair. Two weeks later, on March 18, Ring City presents the next chapter in the Puerto Rico vs. Mexico ring rivalry live from Albergue Olimpico (Olympic Center) when former super featherweight world titlist Alberto Machado (22-2, 18 KOs) faces undefeated rising prospect Hector Tanajara (19-0, 5 KOs) in a 10-round lightweight main event.

Press Release | Undercard Information

Ring City USA begins its three-event residency in Puerto Rico this week when it takes over the Felix Pintor Gym in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, to deliver a card topped by the main event between blue-chip rising star Serhii Bohachuk against former world title challenger Brandon Adams on Thursday, March 4.

The full card, which features seven matchups and fighters at different levels in their professional careers, will stream live around the world on Twitch at 6:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. PT. The three-fight main card will begin at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT on NBC Sports Network in the United States and Puerto Rico, and on Twitch for fans outside of the U.S.

In Thursday’s co-main event, undefeated prospect Danielito Zorilla (14-0, 11 KOs) of Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico, will meet Kazakhstan’s Ruslan Madiyev (13-1 5 KOs) in a 10-round super lightweight fight, while in the telecast opener on NBC Sports Network, Puerto Rico’s Bryan Chevalier (14-1-1, 11 KOs) will face Carlos Zambrano (26-1, 11 KOs) in an eight-round featherweight contest.

The Twitch undercard features four fights including the return of standout Puerto Rican super flyweight Oscar Collazo (2-0, 2 KOs). Also showcased on the undercard is Fernando Vargas Jr. (1-0, 1 KO) against Salome Flores Torres (0-2) in a four-round super middleweight fight, Harold Laguna (1-0, 1 KO) against Darwin Alvarez (pro debut) in a four-round lightweight fight and two fighters making their professional debuts when Jorge Diaz faces Felipe Munoz in a four-round super lightweight fight.

All fighters arrived in Puerto Rico today ahead of Thursday’s event and here is what the undercard fighters had to say upon arrival:

DANIELITO ZORILLA

On facing Ruslan Madiyev: “I have seen several of Ruslan Madiyev's fights, he is a strong fighter with good defense and has very good power in both hands. I understand that many fans will notice my skills since I am facing a very tough opponent, but I understand that he will make me work and have to use everything in my arsenal to obtain victory."

On preparations: “My preparations haven't changed as my previous opponent (Rodolfo Puente) had a similar style to Madiyev who likes to fight inside aggressively."

On fighting in Puerto Rico: “I really like fighting in Puerto Rico, it makes me feel good and comfortable, but I have no problems fighting where I have to fight. My main inspirations in boxing will always be Miguel Cotto and Tito Trinidad, who I had the privilege of seeing fight while they were active.”

His prediction: “I understand that we are going to get some fire, but I see myself as the winner either by stoppage or decision. If he makes a mistake he will pay dearly. If I am victorious, I would like to face current 140lb. World Champion Jose Ramirez.”

RUSLAN MADIYEV

On his opponent: “Zorilla is very well regarded, undefeated and fighting in his home country but he’s never faced anyone as tough as me. This is exactly the type of victory to take my career to the next level."

On the fight: “I’m very excited to be facing Danielito Zorilla this Thursday night in Puerto Rico. We’ve had a very good training camp and I’m prepared for battle as always. I’m also very grateful that my family and fans can watch my fight live in Kazakhstan."

BRYAN CHEVALIER

On Thursday’s fight: “I feel happy and excited since I haven’t fought for over a year. God first, I hope that everything goes well, and I can get the victory. I am going against former world champion Carlos Zambrano, a rival with more experience and with very good skills. We are mentally prepared and physically ready for this opportunity that will undoubtedly lead me to a step towards the fight for the world title. At the level where we are – no mistakes can be made.”

CARLOS ZAMBRANO

On this opportunity: “I am very excited to make my return to the ring with Cotto Promotions and Ring City USA. The last time we had a fight scheduled, COVID-19 hit and the show was shut down. This opportunity was presented to me and we had to take it. Thank you for this opportunity to all involved. It’s going to be a real special show for Puerto Rico and everyone watching on TV.”

On the fight: “In Peru, I had to adapt to the quarantine, and we were able to find a way to train. We have been looking to make a comeback for a long time now. We are confident to come out of this with a victory. We know very little about our opponent but I’m sure he will be just as prepared and motivated as we are. Whatever he brings to me on fight night, we will be ready."

FERNANDO VARGAS, JR

On fighting in Puerto Rico: "I’m excited to fight in Puerto Rico and look forward to putting on a show for the Puerto Rican people. My father was part of an amazing super fight with Tito Trinidad and I hope to one day be able to live up to those types of amazing fights."

FERNANDO VARGAS, SR., TWO-TIME WORLD CHAMPION

On his son’s fight: “I’m excited and happy to go back to Puerto Rico. It’s stunning but amazingly the Puerto Rican fans have always shown me love and respect. Now I ask them to do the same for my son ‘Feroz’ Fernando Vargas Jr."

Adams is getting sparked out. Bohachuk is from a very poor background in the Ukraine. He moved to the USA not speaking a single word of English. He'll be too tough and motivated for the privileged yank as is usually the case in these match ups :OhYes:

Bohachuck is overrated, Adams is better than he's being given credit for.

Adams will stop him tonight. He's the bigger man - Adams has mostly fought at middleweight, Bohachuck has been fighting at junior middleweight). And Adams has not been weakened by Covid-19.

We'll soon see :OhYes: I believe your comments here will look stupid but we'll soon find out :TU:

Bohachuk has already beaten better opposition in the WSB than Adams. When he was a teenager he beat the Cuban Olympic Gold medalist Roniel Iglesias.
