Tommy Frank is promising to give a career-best performance on December 11 that will see him claim the British Flyweight Title, and bragging rights, over local rival Kyle Yousaf at Sheffield Arena, live on Eurosport.

In what will be the UK’s first ever drive-in boxing show, the ‘Steel City’ pair now go head-to-head on the ‘Straightener in the Car Park’ bill a few weeks later than planned, after the original show date was scuppered by the second national lockdown.

In what is a highly anticipated affair, ‘Super’ Tommy will put his 13-0 (3) record on the line against fellow undefeated Brit Yousaf, 16-0 (7), for the vacant Lonsdale Belt – and the 27-year-old says he cannot wait to show fight fans more of what he can do.

In a sport that is often criticised for one-sided matches, this is a genuine 50-50 contest that pits two of the UK’s best little men against each other. Despite it being a ‘pick ‘em’ fight, Commonwealth Super Flyweight Champion Frank believes he is being overlooked, and says that motivates him even more in his quest for victory.

“At first, I was gutted that the original date was moved [from November 20], but Steve Crump and Dennis [Hobson] have worked hard and – like they always do – have come up with the goods and this new date.

“I’m taking the positives from the situation; I’ve got an extra three weeks and it’s given me the chance to just have a few days off, recharge and take the foot off the gas just a little bit. I’m seeing the positives from the situation. I’m still on schedule and it’s just a few extra weeks to improve myself.

“I know I’m in a real fight; Kyle is a quality operator. I have nothing but respect for him, he’s never said anything bad about me, and I never badmouth other fighters anyway. I only have good things to say about Kyle and his team, and I’m so excited. I’ve got a bit of a feeling that I’m being underestimated, and I’m absolutely loving that.

“Something’s come over me that’s fuelling me more than ever, and I really like this feeling of being underestimated, of people maybe wanting me to win but thinking I might not. It’s driving me on and I just know that I’m going to turn some heads with my performance, I really do. I truly believe that the stars are aligned for me to get this title, and turn some heads while doing it.

“It brings the best out of me when people are doubting me, and when I’m up against it. Kyle is a very live opponent and I’ve always said that the better opposition will bring the best out of me. I’m in a really good place and going to pleasantly surprise some people on December 11.”

Dennis Hobson Promotions presents an evening of boxing at Sheffield Arena on December 11, headlined by Tommy Frank and Kyle Yousaf contesting the vacant British Flyweight Title.

Chief support sees Kane Salvin and Sufyaan Ahmed fight for the Central Area Super Featherweight belt. Also appearing will be Sheffield’s Perry Howe, Keanen Wainwright and Nathan Owen, Belfast’s Cathy McAleer, and Rotherham’s Kash Ali.

The action will be broadcast live by Eurosport.

With the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBoC) recently re-mandating the British flyweight title fight between Tommy Frank and Sheffield rival, Kyle Yousaf – promoter Dennis Hobson has updated on the situation.

Frank and Yousaf were due to contest the Lonsdale Belt on the UK’s first ever drive-in boxing show last December but, with Yousaf withdrawing from the contest, Frank suffered his first loss after injury forced him to retire after eight rounds against substitute opponent, Mexico’s Hugo Guarneros.

Despite that defeat, all parties – including the Board, Hobson and Frank – are keen to get the original British Title fight rearranged, with Dennis setting the wheels in motion immediately after the Guarneros contest.

The current lockdown restrictions are obviously having a significant impact on all sports – including boxing – but Hobson is cautiously optimistic that the fight will soon be headlining a Sheffield show.

“Within 48 hours of Tommy losing that IBF fight, we’d put a provisional show together for March,” explained the Fight Academy boss. “We said to Robert Smith at the Board that we still wanted the British Title fight, even though Kyle [Yousaf] had pulled out on us a few times. I wanted to make sure the Board were going to honour that situation, and they gave us the nod straight away.

“Obviously that provisional March date will possibly have to move now because of this new lockdown situation. So, I’m just trying to secure a date but I think we might be looking at the first week in April. It might have to be another drive-in show, or even something different, but I’m gambling that by April we’ll be allowed some spectators, even if it’s not full capacity.

“Kyle is supposed to sell a few tickets, and Tommy does, so we’d really like a good atmosphere there when it happens, because it’s a great fight. It will be another strong show. We’re also currently doing various co-promotional deals with other promoters across the UK about putting on regular TV shows, so don’t be surprised if you see some different lads from other parts of the country on too.”

Hugo deends his IBF Inter-Continental flyweight title for the first time, to the same man he won the belt against in their last fight last December, where Frank was forced to retire in round eight with an injured left shoulder.

Even though it actually looks a pretty decent location from what I can tell when watching the Fightzone app in recent weeks, I never fail to laugh when I read the venue as being “Sheffield Arena Car Park”.

Was at the venue a couple of weeks ago and although it’s on a car park to be fair it’s a great professional set up providing your not over sensitive to the current Covid situation!

The big disappointment to me is that the promoters claimed there would be plenty of 50/50 fights and quite frankly that’s simply not the case .

I’ve downloaded the ap and subscribed from the off - the initial headliner of Tomlinson and Moorcroft was scrapped and yet both boxed on that very same show against very poor opponents ? .

I’ve just watched a fight between Perry Howe and Jevgenjis Andresjevs from Latvia and it had great comic value …this bloke was beyond poor and the stoppage in the fourth and final round was just his 113th loss ! .
He resembled a fat rock star ( Glenn mcCrory comment ) rearranging his hair during the fight ! His last win was in 2015 almost 50 fights ago !

I have done and want to support the venture but these undercards really need to be much balanced .
So much for 50/50 fights ….that was really shameful !

Yes …Gomez Jnr was next up ..won very comfortably against a durable opponent , Cristian Narvaez who also took Reece Mould the distance at show I was at a couple of weeks ago .
Narvaez has 28 losses but he knows and plays his role …a much better opponent than Perry Howes

No revenge for Tommy Frank

Sheffield's popular flyweight star 'Super' Tommy Frank (13-2, 3KOs) slipped to a second defeat at the hands of the same man, Hugo Guarneros (19-4-2, 9KOs), on June 18 at Sheffield Arena Car Park on a Dennis Hobson Promotions event.

The main event was very close, a nip and tuck kind of fight, which must have been very hard for the ringside judges to score. Despite a valiant effort, the 27-year-old couldn't quite do enough to sway the scores his way, although Howard Foster had him winning the contest.

Not a good performance vs the Mexican. I won’t be rushing to watch him again… give away the first 4 rounds and criminally give away the last round thinking he had won the fight.
Howard Foster needs investigating for his score. Just glad the limited Mexican won as he deserved it as there was only one person who wanted to fight.
