Top Rank Press Release

November 28: Daniel Dubois-Joe Joyce Heavyweight Showdown to Stream Live in the United States Exclusively on ESPN+

The highly anticipated all-British heavyweight showdown between British and Commonwealth champion Daniel “Dynamite” Dubois and Joe “Juggernaut” Joyce — Saturday, Nov. 28 in London— has an American broadcast home.

Dubois-Joyce and unbeaten junior middleweight Hamzah Sheeraz against veteran Guido Nicolas Pitto will stream live on ESPN+ beginning at 5pm ET/2pm PT, with a full slate of undercard contests (including the return of WBO No. 1 junior welterweight contender Jack Catterall) on ESPN+ starting at 2pm ET/11am PT.

The 12-round heavyweight main event will also be contested for the vacant European title.

“The future of the heavyweight division will be seen live on ESPN+ Nov. 28,” said Top Rank chairman Bob Arum. “Daniel Dubois is a tremendous young fighter, but Joe is older and had an incredibly successful amateur career. I am glad that American fight fans will have an outlet to watch one of the year’s best fights.”

Dubois (15-0, 14 KOs), winner of six in a row by KO, is no stranger to American fight fans, as his last eight bouts have streamed live on ESPN+.

He went 5-0 in 2019, including a second-round stoppage over former world title challenger Razvan Cojanu, a fifth-round KO over fellow prospect Nathan Gorman and a second-round blitzing of Kyotaro Fujimoto last December. He made his 2020 debut Aug. 29 and knocked out Ricardo Snijders in the second round.

The 35-year-old Joyce (11-0, 10 KOs) turned pro in October 2017 after capturing a super heavyweight silver medal for Great Britain at the 2016 Rio Olympics. He wasted no time as a professional, as he won Commonwealth honors in only his fourth bout.

In 2019, he knocked out former world champion Bermane Stiverne in six rounds and veteran gatekeeper Alexander Ustinov in three rounds to increase his knockout streak to nine.

In July 2019, he went the 12-round distance and outworked former world title challenger Bryant Jennings over 12 rounds. He returned to action July 25 and knocked down Michael Wallisch three times en route to a third-round stoppage.

Joe Joyce: I'm Insulted With Bookmaker Odds, Treating Me Like a Journeyman

JOE JOYCE has revealed he feels “insulted” by bookmakers who fancy him as the underdog in his upcoming battle with ‘Dynamite’ Dubois.

Speaking to The Queensberry Lowdown, Presented by Unibet, Joyce explained that the way he has been overlooked has left him feeling like a mere journeyman.

Currently, Unibet themselves have Daniel Dubois as the 2/9 favourite, whilst ‘Juggernaut’ is an outside bet at 3/1 to emerge victorious.

It is expected that the fight will be an explosive affair, too, with Unibet offering just 3/10 on the fight not going the distance.

“To be honest, I feel a bit insulted” said Joyce, “the way the bookies have it is just crazy. It’s like I haven’t done anything and I’m just a journeyman.

“It’s like I’m the underdog.”

Olympic Silver medallist Joyce is confident the bookies have got it wrong, and vowed that “people who bet on me will have a nicer Christmas.”

At 35-years-old, and with a wealth of amateur pedigree, Joyce believes his experience will be what gives him the edge over 23-year-old Dubois.

“I’ve performed at a higher level, so that psychologically gives me an edge,” said Joyce. “We’ll see on the night if it’s going to be the young, hungry pup or the more seasoned veteran.”

Joyce received criticism for his physique earlier this year when he boxed Michael Wallisch.

Though ‘Juggernaut’ would come through that test with flying colours, advancing his record to 11-0 in the process, many fans and pundits questioned his career high weight of 270lbs.

Any fears he may come in for the Dubois scrap equally chunky seem to have been allayed though, with a series of social media posts this week showing off his impressive abs.

Joyce didn’t reveal what he planned to weigh come fight night, but he did turn the tables on young Dubois by questioning his own increasing size.

Daniel weighed in at 231lbs for his debut in 2017, whereas when he took out Dutchman Ricardo Snijders in August at the BT Studios he was a whopping 244lbs.

“(Daniel) looks great. He looks hench mate, he looks massive.

“But it’s not all about size or how good your body looks in the boxing ring. He’s got big muscle mass, so it’s going to be hard to keep throwing shots.”

However “insulted” he may feel, Joe’s new slim line body is clearly a testament to the work he’s been putting in at the gym and he believes preparations couldn’t have been better as he readies himself to beat not just Dubois but the odds too.

“Camp has gone great and I’m firing on all cylinders.”

Fights like these need to happen. Separate men from the boys.

How good is joyces chin and stamina are the main questions here because hes going to eat a lot of punches early

The betting odds are very surprising. According to them, Joyce is a quite big underdog. It's an evenly matched fight, I think that Joyce is going to win it on points or by late KO.

I think Dub beats him well, but if Joyce takes the shots better than expected and is still hanging in there mid fight, could get very interesting

the odds are more lopsided than i'd have, though still think dub wins

Really great interview with Sam Jones (agent for Joe Joyce) on The Last Round Podcast this week. He thinks the oddsmakers are drastically wrong on the fight. Makes a good case for Joyce. I’m still picking Dub by KO.

SportPesa, Vbet, bet365 and betway have all consider Dubois as having an 83.3% (1/5) probability of victory, with Matchbook’s odds as great as 88.2% (2/15).

Pretty much all the betting websites consider Joyce as having less than 25% chance of scoring the upset, with $markets and bet365 giving Joe only a 23.1% (10/3) chance of victory.

Those odds shock me and I might even be tempted to place a bet on the underdog, because I feel this could be a 51-49 type fight, with Dubois being more heavy-handed and Joyce with more experience and a greater engine/work-rate.

Joe Joyce's Manager is Shocked That Daniel Dubois is Ranked Much Higher

"Joe is below Daniel, quite unbelievably and outrageously, in the rankings," his manager Jones told Sky Sports.

"Dubois is sitting pretty at No 2 on the cusp of a world title fight with either Joshua or Oleksandr Usyk [the current WBO mandatory challenger] depending upon if the belt becomes vacant. If Joe beats Dubois, he gets that spot. This is what motivates Joe. Joe has been in the deep end from the get-go but has to beat a 22-year-old who is tipped as the next Mike Tyson - that's his quick route to the world title. So be it.

"Joe wants fights against the likes of Joshua, Fury, Usyk. It would be an honour to share the ring with Joshua. Two Brits is always a huge fight. After this fight, Joe will be in the mix and able to call out any of the top guys. Joe believes he belongs in that company."

For sure Dubois is the favourite, especially after wrecking the elusive Gorman, but there's no question that this is a real fight.

Both fighters have similar styles and similar weaknesses. For as long as it lasts this should be a very entertaining brawl.

Intriguing matchup and the toughest challenge to date - for both of them.

UK friendly time too!

Why is Daniel Dubois so heavily-favoured over Joyce, to the point that pundits and the betting websites regard this bout as a mismatch?

Daniel's best victory (and probably the only notable win on his resume) came against Nathan Gorman. He didn't achieve much as an amateur either.

In stark contrast, Joe's best wins as a pro came against Bryant Jennings, Alexander Ustinov and Bermane Stiverne.

Joyce has also beaten Tony Yoka, Ivan Dychko and Mahammadrasul Majidov in the amateurs, as well as Filip Hrgovic in the WSB.

Joe is unbeaten in the pro ranks and as an amateur, he captured gold medals at the Commonwealth games and the Europeans, as well as being an unfortunate Olympic silver medalist.

Joe is also a physically bigger man than Daniel.

I've watched these guys fight and whilst they're both decent prospects, they're also flawed in their own ways - one fighter doesn't appear to be any superior/inferior than the other to any great degree.

The outcome of my personal eyeball test doesn't suggest any justification for this bout being regarded as a complete mismatch either!

The more I think about this fight, the more tempting it is to place a bet on the underdog, because the current betting odds being quoted seem utterly preposterous!

Daniel Dubois rated as having an 88.2% (2/15) chance of victory over Joe Joyce? Gimme a break!

Eddie Hearn: 'Daniel Dubois is a complete novice; Joe Joyce gets hit a lot'

During a conference call, ostensibly to promote Friday’s Matchroom Boxing USA card headlined by Danny Jacobs vs Gabriel Rosado, company chief Eddie Hearn was asked (by us) for his take on the Daniel Dubois vs Joe Joyce heavyweight showdown that takes place the following evening, and where the winner will sit in the queue for unified champion Anthony Joshua. It’s fair to say the eloquent promoter did not hold back.

"It’s a good fight, and an interesting fight," he began, in a lengthy answer you can watch in full in the video, which includes his prediction. "The problem is with Joe Joyce, you watch Joe Joyce and you say, ’He is absolutely terrible.’ But obviously he’s not. He’s extremely fit, he’s extremely durable, but I keep going back to the fact that he gets hit a lot.

"Daniel Dubois clearly hits very hard, so I think Joe’s got to be careful in the early stages of the fight. Certainly Dubois is a complete novice in the heavyweight division. So the sensible thing is Dubois early or Joyce to weather the storm and outlast him.

"The winner will be British and European champion and I think that’s about right with the level they’re at, at the moment. The winner could end up fighting [Oleksandr] Usyk for a vacant world title."
