Heavyweight JACK DEMPSEY.
For this hypothetical, Dempsey goes straight to the neutral corner, or the count is started with Dempsey standing nearby, and Tunney barely misses beating the count. (Tunney's corner claims the count was too quick and the fight is remembered as "The battle of the short count.") Anyway, Dempsey is Champion again. What happens next? Does Dempsey retire as Champion? Does he agree to a third Dempsey - Tunney match? Your thoughts?
Re: Heavyweight JACK DEMPSEY.
Tunney would beat that count in any case.

We will never know. He seemed hurt, but you never know how badly. Those extra seconds may have made the difference., but maybe it would not have mattered.
So many interesting things with this fight. One thing that its particularly interesting is that when Tunney knocked Dempsey down for a short count in the next round, the referee did not make Tunney go to a neutral corner; he start counting right away!
Anyway, for the question what would have happened had Dempsey won; I don't think there would have been been a third fight. Dempsey wanted to retire. I think Tunney would have fought one more time for one last payday, as he did against Heeney.

I agree with all of this! Good post, with good thought behind it!Ambling Alp II wrote: ↑23 Nov 2020, 14:35 We will never know. He seemed hurt, but you never know how badly. Those extra seconds may have made the difference., but maybe it would not have mattered.
