"Reach advantage"

Why do broadcasters quote a 'two inch reach advantage' as though it means that the fighter's arms are 2 inches longer than their opponent. It's one inch each arm. It infuriates me.
They should scrap reach stats and use arm length instead.

Are they even measured or just estimates?
I heard Carl Frampton say in his podcast that no one has ever measured his reach, for example.

Doesn't the measurement also measure across the chest? Some boxers have much wider chests than others so that 2 inches isn't even necessarily split between the two arms.

Can only talk about Japan, but measurements are taken over there as part of the medical before a world title fight

Yes and in japan the heights are measured with shoes on.

chest width contributes to how far you can hit someone from, so it should be accounted for, having broader shoulders/chest basically means your arm starts from further out
the dudes below have equal arm length but bottom dude with broader shoulders can hit you from further away

Wider shoulders means you can punch further. Simple really

A lot of stats are exaggerated, fighters like to give the impressions they are bigger than they are. It would be interesting to see fighters properly measured though.
