Joe Giometti trainer of champions

Post by raydoug »

Joe Giometti trained Australian light middleweight champion Johnny Galluzzo at the Parramatta Police
Boys club as an amateur and also as a professional. I boxed as an amateur also at Parramatta PBC starting in 1963 as a featherweight
Galluzzo was there at same time at fifteen years of age as a welterweight. We trained at diferent times and I never got to see Galluzzo. We both became professionals and I had a few fights and retired
Galluzzo was winning most of his fights before losing to Fighting Fifita. He had a break and came into Parramatta PBC to train at same time I was there. Galluzzo trainer Joe Giometti asked if I would spar Johnny and I said okay. We had a good sparring session and Joe asked if I wanted to join the camp. I was happy to train under Joe because I could see he was knowledgeable in the art of boxing. I trained with Joe at Bernie Hall’s gym being regular sparring partner to Johnny. We boxed on same show in 1971 Johnny fighting the main event
I boxed Noel McNamara the brother of Australian light heavyweight champion Greg. Joe Giometti was excellent trainer who also trained Al Gattling
Joe’s son Hugo was a good amateur who became a promoter at North Sydney Leagues club in 1974

Joe Giometti trained good light heavyweight Al Gattling who was born in Zimbabwe Alwin Adams
Gattling had a 27-6 record. Beat some good boxers
including Greg McNamara, Joe Jackson and Sentiki Qata three times. He lost to Joe Vella and Greg McNamara. I heard he had good sparring sessions with Graham Henry.
