Johnny Nelson funny incident?

Post by JimStone »

I'm trying to remember if Johnny Nelson was the fighter who knocked out that clown who came dancing into the ring in a full dinner suit and bow tie back in the 80's(?).

Was it Johnny? Also, what was the guy's name?

Dino Homsey.

He gave Johnny a kiss and a rose because the fight was around Valentines Day

I've never seen that, sounds fornicating hilarious. A very ill advised escapade if you ask me....nice to see a rare knockout from Nelson eh?

Dino had sleazeball agent called Stan Love who used to bring over carcasses.

Love eventually got turned over by Steve Lillis in the Sunday Sport for nicking money off some American fighters after a Phil Martin show in Manchester.

Lillis and the co-promoter Chris Rustage went for a drink with some of the boxers the next night, and knew what purses Love should've paid them but discovered he nicked about 75%. Lillis then called Phil in the middle of the night and told him.

The late Phil and some of his boxers (Bingham and Core) went after Love and scared the shit out of him after taking him for a ride in a transit van. They took the money he nicked off the fighters and gave it to them. Lillis videoed it all and it made front page news.

Love was also pulled in at Heathrow airport for doing a runner from his hotel when he knew they were on his case and not paying some of his hotel bill.

I think you're right. Mat used to come out looking like James Bond; and Yelistratov banjoed him the first time they fought.
