Calzaghe (likely). Would never say definitely in boxing, but I’d be confident it would be a near re-run of the Lacy fight, style is all wrong for Canelo.
Re: The fantasy fight - Canelo (2020) vs. Calzaghe (2007) ?
Calzaghe, his style was wrong for just about anyone. I think peak Jones beats Joe at SMW. I can’t think of anyone else who, to me, beats Joe at SMW.

Calzaghe was good, but he was better offensively than defensively, lacked power and was floored on several occasions. So, he could be outworking Canelo, like many did, but he won't tag Canelo too much and definitely he wouldn't hurt granite-chinned Canelo, while Joe's solid punch output would leave a lot of openings for the great counter-puncher in Canelo.
Canelo by dec or late stoppage.

While tough to call, I think I'll SLIGHTLY lean in favor of Duke's assessment.DrDuke wrote: ↑20 Dec 2020, 11:10 Calzaghe was good, but he was better offensively than defensively, lacked power and was floored on several occasions. Calzaghe throws too many punches and is too active for someone who fights like canelo.
Calzaghe would have a speed advantage too too

dont agree duke and i didnt like joe as person so iaint a fan boy, but joe was spitefulll puncher.he bust his hands up a lot , kesseler is a tough bloke and joe hurt him, joe was natural to the weight his hands were quick, his defensive was solid he could move and trade aswell , a great match up though , man i would of loved to have seen my favorite fighters fight froch v caneloDrDuke wrote: ↑20 Dec 2020, 11:10 Calzaghe was good, but he was better offensively than defensively, lacked power and was floored on several occasions. In fact I wouldn't even favor prime RJJ. I think Joe was the best that division's ever seen.

Re: The fantasy fight - Canelo (2020) vs. Calzaghe (2007) ?
Is Canelo better than Mikkel Kessler, Robin Reid or the 43-year-old Bernard Hopkins?
Does Calzaghe’s reputation match the calibre of his resume?
And what I mean is this, was Jeff Lacy as good as advertised and did Joe really beat the prime iterations of Eubank Sr., Jones Jr. and Hopkins?
Methinks that Calzaghe was another GGG, Luis Ortiz or Terence Crawford... and the point I’m conveying is rather obvious, whereby the reputation and hype clearly overshadows their actual accomplishments inside the ring.
Some fighters are simply very popular, even if the calibre of opposition they face is usually lacklustre.
Calzaghe was decked by Mitchell, Salem, Jones Jr. and Hopkins. I haven’t checked all his fights, but the badly faded Eubank Jr. briefly stunned him too.
Do people think that Canelo can’t hurt Calzaghe?

I don’t like his die-hard fans that are blinded by reality.
And I hate the fact his career was mismanaged.
Finally, I hate the fact he now chooses to play things safe, whilst waiting for the Canelo mega-payday.

And finally, did Calzaghe duck Carl Froch, despite being offered millions of dollars?

Out of the 24 rounds canelo fought with overrated 160 lb cherry picker GGG how many rounds did canelo clearly win?

Does your question relate to the topic of this thread?
Who is more accomplished at 175lbs and 160lbs and 154lbs, Canelo or Kessler?
Has Kessler ever beaten the top-dog at 168lbs?
And forget about title defences, belts won etc., because we’re talking about what would happen inside the ring.
Do you think Kessler would beat Canelo at 168lbs?
