Devin Haney vs. Teofimo Lopez - Who wins?
Teofimo Lopez Sr wants $10M from Hearn for Haney
Teofimo Lopez Sr confronted promoter Eddie Hearn last Saturday night and told him that the asking price for his son Teofimo Jr to face WBC lightweight champion Devin Haney is $10 million. That’s a lot of money for a fight that won’t generate a great deal of interest.
An amused Hearn then told Teofimo Jr that Teofimo Jr’s WBC Franchise title is a fake belt before walking away.
WBC 135-lb champ Haney, 22, has been pushing for a fight against IBF/WBA/WBC [Franchise]/WBO lightweight champion Teofimo ever since he defeated Vasily Lomachenko on October 17th.
Haney maintains that Teofimo needs to fight him to become the true undisputed lightweight champion because his WBC Franchise belt isn’t a real title.
It’s a belt that is given out by the World Boxing Council to popular fighters like Canelo that they like a lot.
Matchroom Boxing promoter Hearn and Teofimo Lopez and his dad were on hand at the Saul Canelo Alvarez vs. Callum Smith fight when they bumped into each other last Saturday night at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.
Hearn’s immediate plans are for Haney (25-0, 15 KOs) to face the winner of the January 2nd fight between Luke Campbell and Ryan Garcia.
The World Boxing Council ordered the Campbell vs. Garcia fight for the interim WBC 135-lb winner with the condition that the winner will face WBC lightweight champion, Haney.
Although Ryan, 22, has recently talked of wanting to fight WBA ‘regular’ lightweight champion if he comes out victorious against Campbell, he’ll likely instead face Haney.
Here’s the interaction between Hearn, Teofimo Lopez Jr, and his father Lopez Sr last Saturday:
Hearn: “What are you going to do? Fight [George] Kambosos Jr?”
Teofimo Lopez Sr: “Ten million, and we’ll fight Devin [Haney] tomorrow.”
Hearn: “I can do that. You won’t be allowed, that’s the problem,”
Teofimo Sr: “You’re talking to the wrong person. You have to talk to me.”
Hearn: "I don’t want to get in trouble for breach of contract."
Teofimo Sr: “We’re the bigger dogs; we’ve got all the belts.”
Hearn: “You’re missing one. You can’t be undisputed. The Franchise doesn’t count. The only thing I don’t like about the Franchise belt is, when you win the Franchise belt, you can’t be undisputed. You should be undisputed.”
Teofimo: “I an undisputed.”
Hearn: “You should be undisputed with your victory [over Vasily Lomachenko], but unfortunately, you’re not."
Teofimo: “We didn’t ask for it [the Franchise belt..”
Hearn: “I know, but you should be [undisputed lightweight champion after beating Lomachenko] with your victory, but unfortunately, you’re not.”
Teofimo’s promoters at Top Rank plan on matching him against his IBF mandatory George Kambosos Jr. next. It’s not a great fight, but it’s a necessity given that he’s his mandatory.

I just voted and saw the result was 100% the way I called it. Then I saw mine was the only vote. I am unanimous in this ![[icon_e_biggrin.gif] :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)
Re: Teofimo Lopez vs. Devin Haney - Negotiations
I think Haney is a bad match up for Lopez. I got Haney by decision if it happens, but I have my doubts lol
Re: Teofimo Lopez vs. Devin Haney - Negotiations
A very close matchup really.
I voted right now for Haney, cause I think, that Haney can outbox a guy, who had a very close with over that lethargic version of Lomachenko.
But still it's close to 50-50 at the current moment.

Re: Teofimo Lopez vs. Devin Haney - Negotiations
I could see Haney pulling it off but Lopez has great composure and power. Tough call.

Re: Teofimo Lopez vs. Devin Haney - Negotiations
Teo wins, a complete fighter at the elite level
Re: Teofimo Lopez vs. Devin Haney - Negotiations
After I saw the sparring session between Haney and Shakur, as a Boxing Genius and If I’m Teofimo, I’m taking half of that $10m haul to get that fight signed and completed for an easy 12 round decision. Haney is too slow for this class and he lacks the power required to be in the catbird seat in any division south of 140.
My suggestion is to get off the couch, hit the weights and start fighting at a weight that could fully utilize his size and attributes. Haney will never be elite on this side of the scale. Mucho talent but these fools are all wrong for him.

Re: Teofimo Lopez vs. Devin Haney - Negotiations
I want to see this top fight being made in 2021 as both guys are top dogs in their primes. No more marinating bs!
Re: Teofimo Lopez vs. Devin Haney - Negotiations
That's how I see it but Haney will let him know he's been in a fight!
Re: Teofimo Lopez vs. Devin Haney - Negotiations
would go teo , as the boy proved he is more than just a banger , he can box as well, he showed a lot of merjuity experience in the loma fight really impressive, haney is a good boxer but he will be put in situations and spots were he hasnt been before , i would expect it to be closer than the loma fight

Teofimo Lopez on Devin Haney: He Needs To Develop…He Don't Have It
Teofimo Lopez was never convinced that Devin Haney was on his level as a fighter. After Haney’s clear but dismal decision over trial horse Yuriorkis Gamboa on Nov. 9., he is certain that Haney is not on his level as a performer either.
“Honestly, there’s not much to the table that (Haney) brings,” Lopez, 23, said on The 3 Knockdown Rule Podcast. “There’s a lot of promotional mindset that I gotta bring out. Same thing with (Vasyl) Loma (chenko), but with Loma there was the amount of accomplishments and the pedigree that he (had) in the boxing world, so that helped."
Lopez (16-0, 12 KOs) won a clear decision over Ukrainian whiz Lomachenko on Oct. 18 in a lightweight unification that many considered to be one of the top upsets of the year. Lomachenko, unlike Gamboa, has long been perceived as one of the best fighters in the sport. The thinking was that the 22-year-old Haney (25-0, 15 KOs) needed to look impressive against a shot Gamboa, to score an early knockout, instead of a dull decision, which is what ended up happening.
“With Haney, he’s still young, he has two, three years to make that type of fight happened,” Lopez said. “He needs to develop. He don’t have it. He don’t. And when he tax him up and do what we do, what am I going to hear from everybody else? I knew the excuses that were brought up with Loma, which is why I didn’t mention any injuries prior to the fight.”
“We bring the marbles of boxing to the table.”
Lopez’s father Teofimo Lopez Sr. was also clearly unimpressed with Haney’s low-energy performance against Gamboa.
“That was disgusting, bro,” Lopez Sr. chimed in. “I say that because my boy Rolly (lightweight prospect Rolando Romero) beat the crap out of Gamboa in sparring. He dropped him like three times and this was the good Gamboa, like three, four years ago. Why fight these guys?
“Lets say we could fight Gamboa, do you know how much sh-t we would get for that? But it’s okay for Haney and Tank to get that?”

Re: Teofimo Lopez vs. Devin Haney - Negotiations
Teo don't want Dev.. He's postponing this..
By time these 2 fight, they'll both be at 140 I think..
Hearn ain't guarantee'ing Teo $10m anytime soon to fight Dev.

Re: Teofimo Lopez vs. Devin Haney - Negotiations
Teo beats anyone at 135 right now. Too big, too fast, too strong, and the kid can fight!
Re: Teofimo Lopez vs. Devin Haney - Negotiations
Teo likely beats Haney.
Rather see Teo Loma 2.
Rather see Teo Loma 2.
Re: Teofimo Lopez vs. Devin Haney - Negotiations
Teo should fight his ibf mandatory and then fight ryan garcia assuming he beats campbell. Winnable fight that is way bigger than a fight against haney.

Re: Teofimo Lopez vs. Devin Haney - Negotiations
give me teo-haney, i've already seen teo 9-3 loma
Re: Teofimo Lopez vs. Devin Haney - Negotiations
Haney has two mandatories set. Campbell vs Garcia winner and Fortuna.
Re: Teofimo Lopez vs. Devin Haney - Negotiations
Considering Teo’s size I would think he’s got a year left at at LW. These 2 fights would be ideal and then maybe Davis if it can happen?
Re: Teofimo Lopez vs. Devin Haney - Negotiations
Re: Teofimo Lopez vs. Devin Haney - Negotiations
To be fair to him or Teo there’s still a lot of time to make that fight at a heavier weight. Maybe 140 or catch weight at like 138 down the line.
Teo vs Taylor at 140 is mouth watering. Would be awesome to see him knock off two top guys.
I’m kinda like others in this thread. Personally wouldn’t mind Loma II (and III if necessary).

I'm not sure about that. That there's still a lot of time to make that fight at a heavier weight.bobcatbox wrote: ↑28 Dec 2020, 23:48To be fair to him or Teo there’s still a lot of time to make that fight at a heavier weight. Maybe 140 or catch weight at like 138 down the line.

It’s on Tank to move up in a hurry for it then. And kudos to him if he does it and makes it happen.gilgamesh wrote: ↑28 Dec 2020, 23:56I'm not sure about that. Man that’s such a good fight to imagine. How am I supposed to sleep now? Thanks bro.
