Colin Bell southpaw lightweight

Post by raydoug »

Colin Bell was a good southpaw lightweight who had a 20 win 6 loss record and had wins over Louis Magnifico and Dick White but lost to David Floyd and American Don Johnson. I met Colin when he was training boxers at a gym in Power street, Doonside. Colin had future Aussie champ Shane Patrick there also Rod Cooper AKA Lou Cruz and veteran Joe Cohen. I visited there with a mate of mine Brian Quinn. I sparred Shane, Lou and Joe that day. There was no boxing ring. It was a hall. I put my foot through the floor while sparring. Funny night. I became good friends with Shane and Lou.
Colin lived in BLACKTOWN and worked as a Garbologist. Very nice man.

Colin boxed from 1953 to 1961 and had the gym in Doonside in 1972. I lost contact with Colin but he would be 84 years of age now. A champion bloke.
