Gilberto Ramirez up for fight with Marcus Browne
“Zurdo” is ready to face Marcus Browne for an interim WBC belt.
With the WBC ordering an interim light heavyweight title fight (which actually makes sense for once) between Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez and Marcus Browne, we can say that at least one side is showing real interest
Ramirez (41-0, 27 KO) says he’s up for the bout, and sees Browne (23-1, 16 KO) as a strong opponent.
“This is an interesting opportunity and I’m ready to fight anyone in the light heavyweight division to leave my mark on the sport,” Ramirez said. “I know Marcus has been out of the ring for a while, but he’s a U.S. Olympian and still one of the best in the game. I know he’s wanted this fight for a while and hopefully we can make something happen.
“In addition, it’s always been my dream to get the green belt and bring it back to Mexico. I have a lot of respect for the WBC and Mauricio Suliman and I am grateful for all their love and support throughout my career.”
Artur Beterbiev is currently holder of the WBC title, along with the IBF, but Beterbiev’s return has been delayed several times over, and he hasn’t fought since Oct. 2019, when he unified those belts with an impressive stoppage win over Oleksandr Gvozdyk.
As for any promotional issues in making this one, Ramirez is now promoting himself after splitting with Top Rank, while Browne is a PBC guy. Logic suggests that if it happens, it would wind up on a PBC show, because it’s a good fight and, frankly, Ramirez doesn’t have much pull as a promoter, running one show so far in Texas on Dec. 18, a small event where he beat Alfonso Lopez in the main event.
“There are always challenges to making a fight become reality,” Ramirez said. “But me being both the fighter and sole promoter, I’m flexible on the common problems that takes to make a fight. I’m not sure how much time Marcus will need to be ready, but both time and location can be determined when the other preliminary items are agreed upon. If it goes to a purse bid, I’m ready for the process and, hopefully, this fight can happen for both of us.”

Re: Gilberto Ramirez vs. Marcus Browne - Ordered
I’m not sure if I understand the WBC’s reasoning to allow Gilberto Ramirez to compete for their interim world light heavyweight title.
The Mexican has only competed twice at 175lbs since 2018, against two fighters (Alfonso Lopez and Tommy Karpency) that weren’t included in the WBC’s top-fifteen ratings at the time of those bouts.
Zurdo was previously the WBO's 168lbs champion.
So there aren't any rules that grants Ramirez an automatic right to challenge for the WBC's interim title at 175lbs.

They'll do whatever they want.

What’s makes this situation worse, is that Marcus Browne tasted defeat in the only bout he engaged in within the last two years (a fight he deserved to lose, due to him being decked three times).

Gilberto Ramirez Will Push To Finalize Marcus Browne Clash For WBC-Interim
Former WBO super middleweight champion Gilberto "Zurdo" Ramirez declared himself ready to face Marcus Browne for the interim-WBC title in the light heavyweight division.
The head of the WBC, Mauricio Sulaimán, mentioned that this fight was ordered due to the inactivity of current champion Artur Beterbiev, who has had problems defending his belt. Beterbiev has had to deal with postponements, injuries and more recently a diagnosis of COVID-19.
Beterbiev has been out of the ring since the fall of 2019, when he unified the WBC/IBF title.
Sulaiman pointed out that at this time the fight between Ramirez and Browne is in a period of free negotiations, with a deadline of February 5, and if an agreement is not reached it will go to a purse bid.
Ramirez was very enthusiastic about this fight, as he remembered when the late Don José Sulaimán saw Gilberto fight, when he was just a child, and years later he was crowned the youth champion of the WBC.
"It's a dream come true," Ramirez said to Hector Lopez. “I feel very excited and motivated, I have always felt part of the WBC and I owe that to Don José, who always treated me with special affection and who since he met me told me that I would be world champion [of the WBC].
"And now today, I have that great opportunity and I assure you that I am not going to let [the opportunity] go, because I owe it to him, to my people and to myself."
Ramirez is technically a free agent and self-promoting himself through his own company, Zurdo Promotions.
He would like to secure the rights to the fight with Browne and stage the fight in Mazatlan.

Zurdo Ramirez decides against WBC eliminator
According to the WBC, undefeated Gilberto Ramirez (pictured) has communicated through his management that ramirez has changed his mind about facing Marcus Browne for the WBC interim light heavyweight belt.
According to the WBC, "It is unfortunate as team Ramirez had asked for an extension to the free negotiations period only to back out at the last minute, consequently the purse bid scheduled for tomorrow has now been cancelled."
Ramirez is a former WBO super middleweight champion who is now self-promoted after severing ties with Top Rank.

That is because he is going to have a tune-up fight on Dazn on the Andrade-Williams card with a view to fighting Bivol in the summer. I don't blame him for taking a full title shot, over an Intermin belt.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑12 Feb 2021, 05:04 Zurdo Ramirez decides against WBC eliminator
