James J Corbett Vs Jake Kilrain

Post by BitPlayer »

The date is wrong, The Daily Picayune 18 feb 1890 (page 2) and The Times Democrat 18 feb 1890 (page 7), both report is having happened the previous day, which would be 17 feb 1890.

The Charley Johnson and Louis Bezenah (the report spells Bezinah) fight is reported on he card in The Daily Picayune, stating time was called at the end of the 4th round and it was given to Bezenah
It also reports a fight between Mike Cleary (180Ibs) https://boxrec.com/en/proboxer/32626 and Mike Smith (claiming 160Ibs but looking heavier of the two)
It says Cleary played with SMith. It says in the second Smith went down groggy Smith declared he had enough at the end, and the referee agreed ending the fight

The Times Democrat, also desribes Charley Johnson (145Ibs) and Louis Bezenah (139Ibs)(the report spells Bezinah) fighting 4 rounds, and it being awarded to Bezenah

The Mike Cleary (180Ibs) and Mike Smith (160Ibs), said that every movement showed Cleary Smith's master. In the second Mike Smith went down (in a clear fake) and let himself be counted out
