Filip Hrgović vs. anybody in the top 10
Filip Hrgović is 28 now and seems like he could put up a decent showing at least against the top guys, so why aren't we seeing him against Fury, AJ, Whyte...even Chisora?
Was watching that old video of him sparring against Wilder in the David Haye camp. Is he in the 'where are they now' file already?
Do you see him beating anyone in the top 10?

Yeah, the guy is being mis-managed, his time is getting wasted. I see him beating the likes of Whyte and Parker. At least now. His team must match him against a living body, before he burns out..

Re: Filip Hrgović vs. anybody in the top 10
In about 2 years time Hrgovic will be able to take whichever belt he wants.
Joshua v Fury may well be the old guard's last hurrah - assuming that Wilder is indeed finished. Certainly looks like it after that Breland interview.
Hrgovic's biggest rival, Dubois, has suffered a big setback and the rest are on borrowed time.
This is modern boxing.
Do nothing and simply wait your time and age-out your biggest dangers.
The days when young kids like Patterson, Ali and Tyson couldn't wait to get to the top seem to be a thing of the past.
None of the current so-called champions can be mentioned in the same breath.

Hrgovic last 4 fights was against D or C level opponents, who put to sleep by many another Tomato Cans.
Both Ajagba and Yoka beat him , he has no similarity to Vitali klitchko ,,Foolish !!!
Prime Vitiali takes out all recent trio champions.

Re: Filip Hrgović vs. anybody in the top 10
Prime Vitali beating Joshua and Fury?
I strongly disagree. Joshua outclasses him and Fury outboxes him.
Prime Wlad I’ve had to agree.
Re: Filip Hrgović vs. anybody in the top 10
Not sure I would fancy his chances against either Fury or Joshua.
But he would have a decent shot against Parker, Pulev, Povetkin, Whyte, Hunter or Chisora.
Him vs Wilder (if he ever comes back) would be a 'who lands first' type of affair.
It would be nice to see him, Joyce, Yoka and Ajaba fighting each other in a couple years, maybe for a belt or two once Fury and/or Joshua get stripped.

Are you joking, even experienced and fully matured Lennox lewis couldn't handle Not yet prime Vitali, if it wasn't for the cut ..

Still not on the Hrgovic bandwagon. He's still unproven, having fought no one of note, IMHO.
Re: Filip Hrgović vs. anybody in the top 10
There is a reason why Vitali was Lennox's final opponent. Lewis obviously thought the fight was a lot closer than he felt it should have been. Admittedly he probably didn't realize at the time he was facing a fighter soon to emerge as being an elite performer.Boxtune wrote: ↑13 Feb 2021, 16:27Are you joking, even experienced and fully matured Lennox lewis couldn't handle Not yet prime Vitali, if it wasn't for the cut ..
If you are going to make the point that Vitali was pre-prime then it's only fair to recognize that Lennox was post-prime.
Re: Filip Hrgović vs. anybody in the top 10
I think Hrgovic has the potential to be the next heavyweight champion, but he needs to improve massively on his performance against Molina, and needs to test himself against someone like a Pulev or a Parker. He has good skills but looks like he's in danger of starting to believe that all he needs is his big right hand ... if he doesn't already.
Let Fury v Wilder II serve as a cautionary tale.

Re: Filip Hrgović vs. anybody in the top 10
Is the reason he got so much hype behind him in the first place because he was the guy who cut Haye in sparring stopping the aborted Fury fight? He was being touted as a monster as an amateur and, like Joyce, should have got the win over fragile Frog but obvious Olympic darling Yoka. Since then he really hasn't done that much, and from what I've seen hasn't been especially impressive.
A bit disappointing to say the least.
What is everybody's heavyweight top 10 at the moment, anyway? Wilder looks like a lost man, Whyte was banged out by Povetkin, Usyk didn't look all that special against a gatekeeper in Chisora, Pulev looked well past it against AJ... Who is top ten is somewhat up for debate right now.
Re: Filip Hrgović vs. anybody in the top 10
Fragile-Frog I like that. I don't know why he elected to sit out his year's ban in France instead of pursuing his career overseas. I think he would be much further on. As it is he's got some good wins on his record considering how many fights he's had (Rice, Allen, Wallisch, Dimitrenko, Duhaupas, Hammer). I'd put him about 15 in the world.
Top ten? Ok I'll give it a go: Fury, Joshua, Wilder, Ruiz, Whyte, Usyk, Parker, Hunter, Povetkin, Joyce,

Re: Filip Hrgović vs. anybody in the top 10
He is though, isn't he? He's big and tall but he's kind of... floppy? You know what I mean? He just seems weak.
My top 10, without too much thought, probably goes:
1.) Fury
2.) Joshua
3.) Wilder (but with massive reservations, considering I'm not even sure he'll fight again)
4.) Ruiz (Again, massive reservations, as he has a dominant win over the clear number 2 but looked crap in the rematch and hasn't done anything since. Will he fight again either?)
5.) Povetkin (an old, seemingly shot fighter but has to be ranked higher than Whyte as he banged him out)
6.) Whyte
7.) Usyk (hasn't really done anything impressive at heavy but carries over a lot of clout from his cruiserweight reign and did beat the sh*t out of Hunter down there, who drew with number 5 Povetkin and, some would argue, was unlucky to get the decision.)
8.)Parker (Probably unlucky with Whyte first time around, would probably beat him in a rematch: I think would beat Hunter, who I have at 10)
9.) Joe Joyce (big solid unit, underrated skills, beat the Next Big Thing without really getting out of second gear, and I tip him to beat Usyk if that fight comes off.)
10.) Hunter (decent at heavy, probably could have been given the win over Povetkin. Still I can't get him just about surviving against Usyk at cruiser out of my head. He got battered in that fight.)
I'd have Filip in against Hunter, personally. If he can't beat him, probably the weakest guy in the top 10 for me, then he needs some serious work.
Re: Filip Hrgović vs. anybody in the top 10
Yes I do know what you mean. It's just as well he does have that fragility or he'd be nailed on for the title. As it is I see him as a long term top tier contender.
Re: Filip Hrgović vs. anybody in the top 10
Everybody is entitled to an off night but a fat Hammer seemed considerably stronger and threw him about. When Fury, who I thought Wlad would KO, took Hammer as a warm up for little Klit and stopped him, I considered it an almost waste of time fight. I think Yoka is too fragile to make it with the big boys. Maybe him and Hyrgovic could fight, in a battle of the up and comers ala Joyce-Dubois, and then we'd see who the serious contender was?
Re: Filip Hrgović vs. anybody in the top 10
I would love to see Yoka fight Hrgovic. I'd go for Hrgovic because he is more robust even if Yoka has an advantage in speed, i can see Hrgovic stopping Yoka but not Yoka stopping Hrgovic. If Yoka were to win it would most likely be by decision.
Re: Filip Hrgović vs. anybody in the top 10
Good post! Right now, it's Fury/AJ and then everyone else.Cyclops wrote: ↑14 Feb 2021, 13:10Is the reason he got so much hype behind him in the first place because he was the guy who cut Haye in sparring stopping the aborted Fury fight? Yoka is another one I'm not impressed with. Yeah, let them fight. I'll take Hrg in that one.

Re: Filip Hrgović vs. anybody in the top 10

Re: Filip Hrgović vs. anybody in the top 10
There is a perfectly logical reason that excellent matchup never got made: Eddie couldn't see any way he could sell it to the PPV audience, neither boxer being home-grown, That's my guess anyway.

oh ya , that prob was the case, but ffs make something good with hrgovic that you can sell then ed
Re: Filip Hrgović vs. anybody in the top 10
Hrgovic will beat all them
So far he beat better opponents as AJ, Fury, or Wilder in there first 12 fights
So give him the first one of the top ten....
Hunter, Chisora, Ruiz, Whyte. however
He smash them all ....

Hrgovic has been pro for 3.5 years, after 3.5 years AJ had beaten: Whyte, Wlad, Breazeale, Martin, and Molina.......way ahead of Fill
