Does anyone know the real name of Signal Joyce-- https://boxrec.com/en/proboxer/245324
My grandfather was an amateur boxer in Pittsburgh, PA in 1915-1920 or so under the name Frankie Carroll. A Joyce family were all good friends with both my grandparents and I wondered if Signal Joyce was one of that family.
I've looked but there is no one with the name Signal or anything similar on ancestry.com.
I know this is a long shot, but thank you for looking.

No idea I'm afraid but could Signal indicate he was in the signal corp in the army? WW1 was from 1914-18 so the same period he boxed.mschubert wrote: ↑11 Mar 2021, 20:42 Does anyone know the real name of Signal Joyce-- https://boxrec.com/en/proboxer/245324

Good luck. Ancestry.com has good military records I believe. I'm in the UK but it wasn't uncommon in those times for boxers, who were serving for their country, to box using names like Bombardier, indicating their rank or regiment.
