Kindelan debut postponed
Legendary Cuban Mario Kindelan debut was postponed. He was supposed to fight in the Cuban National Championships "Torneo Playa Giron", which started last Sunday in Pinar del Rio. The return of two-time Olympic champion was delayed due to "lack of shape". At the end of last year Super Mario told that he wants to fight some more time. After Athens Games he announced his retiring after turning 33 years old in August. According to AIBA rules a boxer cannot enter to the ring if he had passed 34. The regulations will be an obstacle for Kindelan to win his forth consecutive title in this year world championships, which is on November.
Some interesting weight division changes were made at “Playa Giron". Olympic champion Odlanier Solis is up to Super-heavyweight. Silver medalist from Athens Yudel Jhonson once again is back to 69 kg weight limit. Yordanis Despaigne is up at 81 and Yoan Pablo Hernandez is back as a heavyweight.

80 years of Bulgarian boxing
At the end of December 2004 Bulgarian boxing federation celebrated 80 years of it’s founding. In the Sofia’s National Palace of Culture were brought together all the legends of Balkan country. There were four Olympic champions sitting side by side. First one of them was Georgi Kostadinov, winner of gold medal in Munich’72 (at 51 kg) and currently director of sport section of the city of Burgas municipality. Next to him was the man with the smile Petar Lesov (51 kg), champion in Moscow’80. Right now he is continuing his work as a coach in one of the biggest Bulgarian clubs CSKA, after leaving the national team assistant-coach position. The elegant Ivailo Marinov (also known as Ismail Mustafov), ruler of light-flyweight division in Seoul’88 Games, received one of the biggest ovations. He’s well known in entire Bulgaria and is something like god in his native city Varna, where he had great beach restaurant next to the sea, which often host national junior boxing championships under the open sky. Marinov’s fellow-citizen Daniel Petrov, who brought last Olympic boxing title to Bulgaria in Atlanta’96, wasn’t the last to get super special award from Bulgarian federation and Ministry of sport and youth. Dido finished his career in 1999, but don’t stop to fight, this time not in the ring, but on the Sofia’s streets against criminals as a police officer. The last from the Great five Bulgarian champions was the only person, who had won Nikiforov-Denisov and Russel cups and became three times world and three times European championships. He wasn’t lucky to grab Olympic gold in Atlanta, when failed to get the title, loosing in the final of featherweight division. Serafim Todorov was welcomed by all the special guests in the official celebrations with great applause. The only thing that misses him was his well-known mustaches. Despite his lack of luck and post sport career realization in last few years Todorov didn’t discouraged. Now he is thinking of eventually renovate his professional career and to enter in politics.
The most dramatic part of awarding ceremony came when the first Olympic Games medalist (not only for boxing, but from all other sports) took the microphone. Boris Georgiev – Mokata, who finished third in Helzinki’52, started to cry, when he saw all the boxing legends that came to the ceremony.
In fact there were a lot of others great fighters, great coaches and great peoples, who helped to put Bulgaria as one of the best boxing schools in the world. 144 medals were won by the small nation since the first one was get by Boris Georgiev – Mokata. It’s strange that the last one also came from a person called Boris Georgiev, who won the bronze in Athens Games.
