Buatsi v Dos Santos
Buatsi v Dos Santos
Good to see Buatsi get a fight date ... but damn that’s an awfully padded record his opponent has.
15-0 on boxrec but only two of his opponents have a winning record. The two that do have a winning record were 6-5 and 2-1 ... so hardly ferocious competitors
Buatsi is better than this ... Craig just fought Bivol and I think we would have all said Buatsi is better than Craig.
Why are they holding him back so much

They could have gotten away with this twenty years ago but when fighters' records are so easily available on Boxrec, you can see just how much of a padded record this Dos Santos has.
Not sure what this will do for Buatsi, unless they felt he had a lot to learn after struggling last time out.

You don’t expect much better at 10 days notice but it does always seem to be the next fight with Buatsi. His career was stop start before covid and obviously during it.
Reminds me a bit of Ricky Hattons seemingly endless WBU run. During that we never thought it was going to end.

Buatsi Vs Richards would be a good follow-up fight...

Re: Buatsi v Dos Santos
Probably the last Matchroom show on Sky so they're not going to push the boat out or risk anything before the move to The Dazn.
Re: Buatsi v Dos Santos
Hard to feel anything for a fight with such a s**t opponent
Re: Buatsi v Dos Santos
Very true Rocky regarding the contract end with Sky.
On the other hand people have paid their Sky subscriptions and expect better than this.
( I don’t give the Broadcasters a penny ... I try to go to live shows and buy tickets directly from he boxers )

Doesn't get the stick Yarde got coming up despite being a much better amateur.

The narrative will be that he needs a soft one as it’ll be his first fight with Virgil. That’s ok only aslong as he’s kept active. They should be getting him out again in July, then September and then December with decent steps up in his opposition.
His win against a tough Calic was a good one as it showed he can cope with adversity but it was 8 or so months ago now.

I'm surprised it wasn't Dec Spelman.knockout wrote: ↑04 May 2021, 09:48 Good to see Buatsi get a fight date ... but damn that’s an awfully padded record his opponent has.

Re: Buatsi v Dos Santos
It’s only been announced today so there’s time for it to get the stick it deserves.
The main issue I hard with Yarde’s matchmaking was that he fought poor opponents and then went into a world title fight under-prepared. Calic for me was far better than anyone Yarde had fought pre Kovalev.
Yarde was also headlining cards fighting poor opponents whilst at least this fight is supplemented by 3, albeit average, European title fights and a couple of other good fights.

Re: Buatsi v Dos Santos
meant in general, not just this fight, which is dreadful
buatsi was an olympian , yarde had like 11 am fights and already people were slagging him off constantly after like 2.5 years pro. yarde was once scheduled to fight ryan ford and got total sh!t for it, buatsi actually fought the same guy and hardly got anything. you even have ppl big upping liam conroy in other threads for buatsi
think defo, that some of the dislike for yardes camp rubs off onto him

Yeah - it’s a shite fight as have most of Buatsi’s and Yarde’s.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑04 May 2021, 13:11 meant in general, not just this fight, which is dreadful

Buatsi needs to step up a level and be active.
Re: Buatsi v Dos Santos
They initially planned Blake Capparello but he got beat and that stopped that fight.Hammerhead wrote: ↑04 May 2021, 12:34I'm surprised it wasn't Dec Spelman.knockout wrote: ↑04 May 2021, 09:48 Good to see Buatsi get a fight date ... but damn that’s an awfully padded record his opponent has.

Yeah I think they have 1 more show after that with Sky (Newcastle) for Ritson then it ends.Rockytony67 wrote: ↑04 May 2021, 10:16 Probably the last Matchroom show on Sky so they're not going to push the boat out or risk anything before the move to The Dazn.
So you won’t see much as you say until after that then they’ll try up schedule massively Aug-Dec for new set up with more money to play with.

Re: Buatsi v Dos Santos
Buatsi might be good but he is now entering the catagory of “wasting his prime”, 5 years after olympics being a big deal ect, he should minimum he making meaningful euro defences, and realy should be fighting for a world title or jockeying for a shot, this opponents record is as padded as they come and a win here does little for buatsi. There are 5 domestic fights he could make where he would still be a strong favorite but would be ways better than this.
Incredible that he has basicaly fought only 2 times a year and at a low levle... is he a part time bin man or very over paid...

Re: Buatsi v Dos Santos
He’s picked up lot of small niggly injuries - after last fight he was due to go again but was out for 3 months - that’s happened a few times to him.gregregegg wrote: ↑05 May 2021, 01:14 Buatsi might be good but he is now entering the catagory of “wasting his prime”, 5 years after olympics being a big deal ect, he should minimum he making meaningful euro defences, and realy should be fighting for a world title or jockeying for a shot, this opponents record is as padded as they come and a win here does little for buatsi. He’s quite meticulous in his prep where he likes X amount of weeks preparation - I remember Hearn saying we could have boxed JB but he said no as he wasn’t ready a times.
Re: Buatsi v Dos Santos
312DW - interesting . Maybe JB is his own worst enemy.
Sure you want a good camp, but If your turn down several fights due to having a slightly shorter camp. then it does get to the point where your perfection is detrimental.
