Prime Joe Louis vs. ?

Post by NYDominican »

Joe Louis fought Ezzard Charles on September 27, 1950. Ezzard gave Joe a very bad beating. But, Louis was past his prime.

1. A prime Joe against a prime Charles, do you think that Louis would have beaten Ezzard?

2. Or, was Ezzard's style always going to be very problematic for Joe?

3. Again, a prime Joe Louis vs. a prime Ezzard Charles? What do you see happening in this fight? Who would win? Why?

Please explain.

In his prime Louis was a better fighter than Charles. Anyway, Charles still would be able to make it a fight, but Louis would prevail due to his power and precision. Louis by dec or late KO.

I concur. The prime Brown Bomber would cut Charles off the ring and banging his head behind his great left jabs, left hooks, right hands and combinations to either decision him or late round KO from 11 to 14 at best should Louis had the Cincinnati Cobra in trouble.

It would be a very competitive fight. Charles was certainly a superior boxer than Billy Conn who nearly beat Louis, but he was not a mover like Conn. There's a good chance Charles could beat Louis, although the smart money would be on Louis to win.
