Does everyone say that?

The only guys I’ve heard refer to it as that are Mayweather Jr and Eubank Snr. I agree though that it’s annoying!

I remember hearing a lot more recently, especially Hearn. I seem to to remember it being used a bit in America as posted above .

boxing is obviously a sport, it's just rather redundant to say it like that

You only play sports with a ball(play football, basketball etc), sports that finishes with ing pair with go(swimming, skiing, running etc) the rest is with do(karate, gymnastics, yoga etc)

Bluddy oath mate!
Not anymore though, I used to box and go to the boxing club, every fortnight I would box at a boxing match or competition.
If I'm watching, then I'm going to the boxing.. Hope that helps :TU:

Yes to be grammatically correct it is go boxing, but it always sounded a bit strange.
More realistically you GO TO a place, so I usually would say I am going to the gym, or maybe going down the gym.
Or even I am going training.

Eubank Sr doesn’t refer to boxing as a sport. He doesn’t consider it a sport.

‘Dirty blood-business’ were his words back in the day.

That’s been replaced by ‘art and craft’ today.

I don't think he did. I think it's more of a general Americanism the likes of Lampley, Kellerman, Merchant and their predecessors used in order to sound dramatic. It's definitely been picked up in the UK too in recent times though (maybe in part because of Mayweather using it a lot).

Boxing has always had an air of pretentiousness about it
