IBO title
IBO title
Whilst flicking through YouTube whilst bored the other day I watched a Eddie Hearn Instagram live pretty sure he says Lerrone Richards will be on his Dazn show fighting for the IBO title !
No criticism of Lerrone at all , as he is a good boxer and works his ass off like most pros and deserves any pay cheque he gets
BUT Eddie going down the IBO route on his shows is not a good sign is it ?

Re: IBO title
Least there’s no WBU anymore. Be thankful.
IBO still probably 5th best belt out there and there’s a lot!!

I didn't mind the wbu tbh, it gave us a few tasty rucks and earned the fighters a few bob. you knew what you were getting most of the time.
I'd rather a 2nd division "world" title than all this regular, interim, silver belt stuff.

Re: IBO title
the wba champs, even the secondary ones, are still generally well above ibo quality champs, for years the ibo has mainly been a 2nd hand title given out to aussies and south africans
if you compare their average beltholders over the years, there's really no contest. plus the good fighters who have held ibo titles almost always hold other world titles at the same time, very rarely is there a top guy with only an ibo title. the ibo basically trys to slut itself out to top fighters and see who will take them
no way they would go for an ibo shot if they could get the same opponent for a wba/ibf/wbc/wbo shot

Re: IBO title

i remember for a time eddie was trying to hype the wbc diamond belt, but that lost steam quick

Re: IBO title
Eddie already promoted the IBO belt twice on the GGG undercard and the Andrade/Williams card.
So looks like he is making Lerrone Richards Vs Carlos Gongora. Good fight. Just please don't even mention the IBO.

He was hyping that because he was pushing Crolla vs. Linares as a unification, which it wasn't.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑28 Jun 2021, 02:47 tenny went for the ibo vs the mexican who banged him out too didnt he

Crolla was WBA champion and Linares was WBC Diamond champion, which just meant he was like a special mandatory for the WBC belt. Credit to Hearn, he managed to get the vacant Ring Mag title on the line too.

Wasn't Pac vs. Hatton for the IBO belt? Ring Mag was on line too.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑28 Jun 2021, 02:43 if you compare their average beltholders over the years, there's really no contest. plus the good fighters who have held ibo titles almost always hold other world titles at the same time, very rarely is there a top guy with only an ibo title. the ibo basically trys to slut itself out to top fighters and see who will take them

Re: IBO title
It was and a perfect example of how overvalued and hypocritical the ring belt was. Manny had never fought at 40.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑28 Jun 2021, 05:35Wasn't Pac vs. Hatton for the IBO belt? Re: IBO title
George Groves did the right thing not paying the sanction fees in the Eubank Jr fight. Think he saved himself 50k or so. No need to have the IBO world title while holding another top 4 belt.
Re: IBO title
Barry Hearn had a few of his fighters with IBO's years back, Charles Shepherd, Colin Lynes, Jason Cook a and a good few more.
Re: IBO title
Never a good sign when boxers are giving up their European titles for IBO trinkets etc.
They can earn decent money contesting the EBU title, but the likelihood is they could have tougher mandatory challengers. It's a free reign with the obscure sanctioning bodies !
I tend to switch off following a boxer who goes down this route. Whilst they might make some easier money, history doesn't pay out so well.
