On the theme of the accomplished Russian veteran Andrey Zamkovoy getting the Bronze today at his 3rd Olympic attempt (Bronze at the 1st one), it's good to remember the achievement of Alexander Lebziak, who was able to get the Gold for Russia at his 3rd Olympic run (no medals at previous two).
Lebziak is a one of the greatest Russian amateurs. He was a one of the most well-rounded competitors ever. He could box, he could fight, he was crafty and he could punch hard. His technique was polished, his arsenal was diverse, he could do the textbook hit-and-not-be-hit stuff and he had a badass moustache!

His first two Olympic runs, in 1992 and 1996 at MW, were brave, but unlucky and failing efforts. Lebziak suffered the same injury shortly before his 1st Olympics and in the process of the 2nd one. He had a torn lung tissue and pneumothorax caused by the weight cut in about 2 weeks before the tournament in 1992 and in the opening fight of the 1996 run, still he bravely continued and won the next fight.
He moved to the LHW afterwards and he competed at this weight in 2000. Here are his 1/4, 1/2 fights and the final one:

A fun interview after the final fight, the Russian reporter asked Lebziak and his cornerman: "How will you celebrate the victory?", and Lebziak answered: "Well, now we'll have a couple of beers and go home!".

Sorry auto correct
Re: Alexander Lebziak
He had only a one pro-fight, after he had retired in the amateurs. He fought journeyman Stacy Goodson in a formal bout and won by the 1st round KO. He was always saying, that his main goal was the Olympic Gold. He finally won the Olympics at the age of 31. He has often said, that if he was able to start a pro-career at the age of 25-27, he would probably try it, but he felt late for it in 30s.

Re: Alexander Lebziak
his boxing reminds me of lot of kovalev, except with more body attack mixed in
Re: Alexander Lebziak
He outclassed Green that time. Green was given a count and eventually stopped in the 4th round because of the rule of 15 points gap between the fighters.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑01 Aug 2021, 23:54 he busted danny green's nose and broke his jaw at the 2000 olympics.....i notice from a look at his record that he scored lots of stoppages for the ams
Yes, Lebziak was a well-rounded boxer-puncher, so his fights often ended with a stoppage. At the 2000s Olympics he had overall 5 fights, only 2 went the full-distance.

Boss man no doubt
Re: Alexander Lebziak
Yea that sumbi+ch could punch! Jab felt like a sledge hammer. I got knocked down and then got up the referee never started counting. I guess he didn't want me to get murdered LOL. But I had a hell of a time in Tashkent Uzbekistan before and after the fight it was a well-paid 2 week vacation.
