Lee McGregor vs. Kash Farooq II - Terms Agreed
BBBofC orders Lee McGregor vs Kash Farooq rematch
The British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) has released the latest update on its myriad English and British titles, revealing a number of intriguing tidbits.
We’ll go by weight in descending order, focusing on the new stuff.
Up at light heavyweight, the Board has ordered former titlist Hosea Burton (26-2, 12 KO) to meet unbeaten English champ Danny Azeez (13-0, 8 KO). Burton stopped Liam Conroy last June in his first fight since falling to Ricards Bolotniks in the Golden Contract tournament, while Azeez made his second successful defense in April with a split decision over Ricky Summers.
At 168, Lennox Clarke (20-1-1, 8 KO) will look to build off his knockout of Willy Hutchinson in a voluntary defense against Zak Chelli (10-1-1, 5 KO).
At 154, Anthony Fowler (15-1, 12 KO) has declined to meet Hamzah Sheeraz (13-0, 9 KO) in a final eliminator.
At 147, Ekow Essuman (15-0, 6 KO) will make his inaugural defense against Danny Ball (10-0-1, 4 KO) after claiming the belt last month.
The most interesting development, however, comes at 118, where they’ve scheduled a purse bid for champion Lee McGregor’s (11-0, 9 KO) rematch with Kash Farooq (15-1, 6 KO). McGregor defeated then-champion Farooq by questionable decision in 2019 and has since knocked out three challengers, including Karim Guerfi in just 2:43. Farooq is 2-0 in that span and is set for a stay-busy fight on this Saturday’s Buatsi-Bolotniks Fight Camp card.

Re: Lee McGregor vs. Kash Farooq II - Rematch Ordered
It’s good a rematch has been ordered, but Lee will probably vacate.
It would’ve good for these two to meet again, Kash needs much more momentum than he currently has, but Lee looked a little vulnerable last time.
I would like to see them fight again for sure, but I doubt we’ll see it anytime soon.

If Lee does vacate, I wonder if Kash would bother with a vacant title fight against someone else seeing as he has already won the belt outright.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑12 Aug 2021, 16:26 It’s good a rematch has been ordered, but Lee will probably vacate.

McGregor isn’t ready for the world champions so the rematch with Kash will be the next most financially desirable option and he also has something to prove after the majority thought Kash deserved to win their first fight.

agreed. It's a shame, was an excellent fight and a sequel would possibly be even better (if Lee could make the weight well which I have some doubts on)Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑12 Aug 2021, 16:26 It’s good a rematch has been ordered, but Lee will probably vacate.

but to me vs Kash he looked like the classic 'size too big for the division' fighter, both in terms of how big he looked next to Kash and also how he seemed drained in the later rounds. he just struck me as someone not long for that weight but that's just an impression not based on anything solid like actual knowledge

Lee McGregor, Kash Farooq Reach Agreement For Rematch
A deal has been struck for Lee McGregor and Kash Farooq to meet in a long-awaited all-Scottish rematch for the British, Commonwealth and European bantamweight titles.
The two met in November 2019 in a brilliant fight, with McGregor, who went into the fight as Commonwealth champion, winning a narrow and disputed decision over Farooq, who went in as British champion. It was also a classic East v West Scottish clash, with McGregor coming from Edinburgh and Farooq from Glasgow.
Farooq had hoped for a direct rematch, but McGregor went in another direction and won the European title in sensational style with a first-round stoppage of Karim Guerfi in March.
The British Boxing Board of Control had called for purse bids after mandating the rematch, but ahead of bids being opened, a deal was agreed between Farooq’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, and McGregor’s representatives, MTK Global, for Hearn to promote at a date and venue to be agreed.
McGregor, who stretched hid unbeaten record to 11 by getting off the floor to knock out Vincent Legrand in August, is ranked No 3 by the IBF, the highest rated contender, as well as No 7 by both the WBC and WBA and No 12 by the WBO. Farooq is ranked No 12 by the WBC and 14 by the WBO. He was also last in action in August as he beat Mexico’s Luis Castillo on points.

We have a rematch!
Just need a date and venue!
Lee probably has better momentum going into it.
Has had the tougher fights since.
Kash needs to tighten his defence a little.
Ain’t nobody dropping him, but can’t take many clean shots and lose those rounds in the rematch.

Yes!!
When all hope was lost, finally a rematch.
Loved the first fight, well deserving of another go.
Thought Kash just edged the first one and at the time thought he would win a rematch - but - Lee has been out there splattering dudes and earned a world top 10 place.
Which makes this rematch even more intriguing

Would expect it late Nov time - he was originally mentioning it for early next year but now he’s won bid expect it before Taylor now.

Hearn and MTK came to an agreement.
But it's already confirmed it will be Hearn the main promoter of the show and will be DAZN.
Either that, or it would be on YouTube/IFL.
I remember the first fight was on BBC Scotland

Brilliant news, will try and go to this live. Thought Kash pinched the first fight but it was close and a great watch.

Frank doesn’t work with Top Rank anymore. It’ll be on Sky and they’ll have some Boxxer fighters on there.
