Kyoguchi, Bermudez Granted 10-Day Extension By WBA To Reach Deal For Title Consolidation Clash

Hiroto Kyoguchi will have a little more time to work out terms for his next ordered title defense.

The reigning World Boxing Association (WBA) “Super” junior flyweight titlist has been granted a ten-day extension to come to an agreement for a title consolidation clash with Mexico’s Esteban Bermudez, the sanctioning body announced on Wednesday. The deadline had already expired without an agreement in place, though it was decided that additional time would help get this fight over the line.

“With the 10-day period granted, they should reach an agreement before August 28,” declared Carlos Chavez, chairman of the WBA Championship Committee.

Bermudez (14-3-2, 10KOs) claimed the WBA “World” junior flyweight title in a stunning sixth-round knockout of previously unbeaten titlist Carlos Canizales this past May 29 in Mexico City. Less than two weeks later came the order from the WBA to enter talks with Tokyo’s Kyoguchi (15-0, 10KOs), who was previously eyeing a title unification clash with WBO champ Elwin Soto (19-1, 13KOs) for later this year. Kyoguchi and Soto are both promoted by Matchroom Boxing, with chairman Eddie Hearn successfully lobbying on Kyoguchi’s behalf for a one-fight exemption from his mandatory commitment to pursue a fight with Soto.

Those plans went awry, however, once Soto was locked into a mandatory title defense of his own. The WBO titlist from Mexicali has since agreed to terms for a bout with number-one contender Jonathan ‘Bomba’ Gonzalez, with their fight eyed for a tentative September date on DAZN from a location to be determined.

That leaves Kyoguchi to turn to Bermudez for his next opportunity. As per WBA rule C.13 addressing Bout Limitations, “within sixty (60) days of the expiration of the mandatory defense period, a World Champion may not fight a boxer who is not the Mandatory Contender, or the next highest ranked boxer (if there is no Mandatory Contender), nor may a designated contender fight during the same period for anything other than the championship.

“During the pendency of a required contract negotiation or purse bid period for a championship or eliminator fight, no champion, official contender, or boxer directly affected by the period can sign an agreement for, or participate in, a bout different than the one that is the subject of the negotiation or bid period.”

The 10-day extension is expected to be the final one offered for this fight, given the WBA’s recent push to reduce its number of recognized champions. A purse bid hearing will be called in the event a deal cannot be reached by August 28.

Kyoguchi—a two-division titlist—has held the WBA "Super" title since dethroning Hekkie Budler on New Year's Eve 2018. Three successful defenses have followed, including a fifth-round injury stoppage of Axel Aragon this past March 13 at American Airlines Center in Dallas. The win over Aragon marked the U.S. debut for Kyoguchi, coming shortly after signing with Hearn as well as manager Eddy Reynoso.

Kyoguchi-Bermudez: WBA Issues Final 10-Day Extension For Junior Flyweight Title Consolidation Fight

Hiroto Kyoguchi and Esteban Bermudez still have work to do and now with a firm deadline to help speed up the process.

A title consolidation bout between the pair of junior flyweights was re-ordered by the World Boxing Association (WBA) on Thursday. The instance marks the third time that the two sides have been called to make a deal, this time with a final ten-day deadline in place before heading to a purse bid hearing.

Japan’s Kyoguchi (15-0, 10KOs) holds the WBA “Super” junior flyweight title, while Mexico’s Bermudez (14-3-2, 10KOs) currently serves as the WBA “World” junior flyweight titlist. The two were first instructed to work out terms on June 10 and again on August 18. There is no more wiggle room, as the WBA remains committed to reducing the division down to one recognized titlist.

“The World Boxing Association (WBA) continues to move forward in its plan to reduce world titles and in that sense, sent a communication to the teams of [Kyoguchi and Bermudez], granting them 10 days to reach an agreement to fight,” Carlos Chavez, chairman of the WBA Championship Committee noted to both boxers in an official letter, a copy of which has been obtained by BS.com. “Kyoguchi and Bermudez were called to negotiate last June 10, 2021. That period ended on July 11, 2021. On August 18, a special 10-day deadline was given, which was communicated to the parties through the regular channels, which expired last August 28.

“Now they have been granted a final term of 10 days to close the fight. The period will expire on November 1. If there is no agreement or if any of the parties express unwillingness to agree on the fight, [a purse bid] will be called.”

Kyoguchi is represented by Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing, while Bermudez is signed with Greg Cohen Promotions. Both parties were warned back in June that neither boxer was permitted to enter another fight without first resolving terms in the ordered title consolidation clash.

Matchroom attempted to place Bermudez on its most recent show, in a scheduled October 16 title defense versus Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez. The fight was announced as part of a show headlined by former four-division titlist Mikey Garcia, who went on to lose a ten-round, majority decision to Spain’s Sandor Martin. Bermudez was removed from the show after the WBA refused to sanction his fight with Rodriguez, who went on to face and eventually stop late replacement Jose Alejandro Burgos.

Instead, Bermudez will remain on the hook to face Kyoguchi, a former strawweight tltist who won a second divisional crown following a tenth-round stoppage of Hekkie Budler in their New Year’s Eve 2018 title fight in Macao, China. Three title defenses have followed for the 27-year-old Kyoguchi, including a fifth-round injury stoppage of Axel Aragon this past March 13 which served as his U.S. debut and first fight since signing with Matchroom Boxing and manager Eddy Reynoso.

The next fight for Kyoguchi will have to be a mandatory, which was due last September and which places him in violation of WBA rule C.13 addressing Bout Limitations, “within sixty (60) days of the expiration of the mandatory defense period, a World Champion may not fight a boxer who is not the Mandatory Contender, or the next highest ranked boxer (if there is no Mandatory Contender), nor may a designated contender fight during the same period for anything other than the championship.

“During the pendency of a required contract negotiation or purse bid period for a championship or eliminator fight, no champion, official contender, or boxer directly affected by the period can sign an agreement for, or participate in, a bout different than the one that is the subject of the negotiation or bid period.”

Bermudez entered the title picture following a sixth-round knockout of unbeaten Carlos Canizales in a stunning upset this past May 29. Canizales hadn’t fought in two years but was still expected to prevail and move forward in his own pursuit of Kyoguchi.

The honor went to Bermudez, though the near-five month wait has exhausted the patience of the WBA who remains committed to reducing its number of titlists.

In the event the ordered title fight heads to a purse bid, Kyoguchi is due 65% percent of the winning purse amount as the “Super” champion with the remaining 35% going to Bermudez as the “World” titlist.

Kyoguchi-Bermudez WBA Title Consolidation Clash Heads To November 12 Purse Bid

The time has come for Hiroto Kyoguchi and Esteban Bermudez to face the music.

A purse bid hearing has been scheduled to determine promotional rights for the World Boxing Association (WBA) junior flyweight title fight that was first ordered nearly five months ago. The sanctioning body announced a November 12 date set aside for the bout following the latest deadline expiring without a deal in place.

“The Championships Committee of the World Boxing Association (WBA) called for a purse bid for next November 12, 2021 for the bout between the [WBA “Super”] Light flyweight champion Hiroto Kyoguchi and the [WBA “World”] champion Esteban Bermudez,” Carlos Chavez, chairman of the WBA Championship Committee noted in a letter to all WBA-registered promoters. “The pioneer organization sent the communication to all promoters interested in participating in the bidding, which will begin at 10:00 a.m. and will be held through the Zoom platform due to the effects of the pandemic.”

The winning bid will be split 65/35 in favor of Kyoguchi as the higher classified titleholder.

A final extension was granted October 21, coming with a ten-day deadline to produce a deal before heading to a purse bid hearing.

The November 1 deadline arrived with talks not much further along than even was the case back in June. The sanctioning body waited an additional week before determining when to host the purse bid, which is paired up with a session to determine the rights to the WBA junior featherweight title eliminator between Ra’eese Aleem (18-0, 12KOs) and Azat Hovhannisyan (20-3, 16KOs).

Kyoguchi was represented in such talks by promoter Eddie Hearn, signing with his Matchroom Boxing company last December 2020 along with Eddy Reynoso’s No Boxing, No Life management. Bermudez was represented by Greg Cohen Promotions (GCP), the partnership formed shortly after Bermudez’s stunning upset knockout win over the-unbeaten Carlos Canizales to win the secondary WBA title this past May 29 in Mexico City.

Shortly after Bermudez’s feat came the call from the WBA to begin talks with Kyoguchi, a two-division titlist who has held the WBA belt since dethroning Hekkie Budler via tenth-round stoppage on New Year’s Eve 2018. Kyoguchi has made three defenses of the belt, most recently in a fifth-round injury stoppage of Axel Aragon Vega this past March 13 at American Airlines Center in Dallas.

Hearn sought for Kyoguchi to enter a title unification bout with then-WBO titlist Elwin Soto, though both were pressed with mandatory obligations. Despite the June 10 order to first begin talks with Bermudez, the WBA was willing to grant a one-fight exception in the event that Soto was free and clear to do the same. It proved to not be the case, as the WBO called for Soto to defend against mandatory challenger Jonathan ‘Bomba’ Gonzalez prior to his handlers requesting an exception.

Soto went on to lose a twelve-round decision and the WBO title to Gonzalez this past October 16 on DAZN from Chukchansi Park in Fresno. The show—which was headlined by Sandor Martin’s stunning upset win over former four-division titlist Mikey Garcia—was to also include Bermudez in a voluntary title defense versus unbeaten rising star Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez. The WBA nixed those plans, refusing to sanction the fight given that Bermudez was still on the hook to first come to an agreement with Kyoguchi.

With all other options exhausted, the only remaining move is to wait out the purse bid hearing. The session will be registered to all WBA-registered promoters, provided the minimum terms are met.

Bids must come with a minimum ten percent deposit, along with up to three dates and locations for the bout to take place. The promoter who wins the session must then provide final contracts within 20 days, with the fight to take place no sooner than 45 days from the time of the purse but no later than 90 days. That time frame would place a potential Kyoguchi-Bermudez title consolidation clash anywhere from December 27 through next February 10.

Kyoguchi-Bermudez: WBA Cancels Purse Bid Hearing As Terms Reached For Title Consolidation Bout

Hiroto Kyoguchi and Esteban Bermudez have finally come to an agreement.

A negotiation period that has extended more than five months has produced a deal in place for the World Boxing Association (WBA)-ordered junior flyweight title consolidation clash. The Panama City-headquartered sanctioning body confirmed the news Friday, hours ahead of a previously scheduled purse bid hearing.

“The purse bid to grant the promotional rights for the WBA Light Flyweight title fight between Hiroto Kyoguchi and Esteban Bermúdez was canceled after both teams reported that they had reached an agreement,” Gilberto Jesus Mendoza, longtime president of the WBA said of the ordered title fight. “The details of the fight will be reported in the coming days.

A final extension was granted October 21, coming with a ten-day deadline to produce a deal before heading to a purse bid hearing. The deadline came and went without terms being reached, though both sides took advantage of the additional time preceding the ordered purse bid.

Kyoguchi was represented in such talks by promoter Eddie Hearn, signing with his Matchroom Boxing company last December 2020 along with Eddy Reynoso’s No Boxing, No Life management. Bermudez was represented in talks by Greg Cohen Promotions (GCP), the partnership formed shortly after Bermudez’s stunning upset knockout win over the-unbeaten Carlos Canizales to win the secondary WBA title this past May 29 in Mexico City.

The forthcoming fight will mark the fourth attempted title defense for Kyoguchi, a two-division titlist who has held the WBA belt since dethroning Hekkie Budler via tenth-round stoppage on New Year’s Eve 2018. In his most recent start, Kyoguchi enjoyed a successful U.S.—and Matchroom—debut in a fifth-round injury stoppage of Axel Aragon Vega this past March 13 at American Airlines Center in Dallas.

Bermudez was immediately recognized as the mandatory to the WBA “Super” title following his stunning win over Canizales. Hearn sought separate bouts for both, including a hoped-for unification bout between Kyoguchi and then-WBO titlist Elwin Soto. Mandatory title defense obligations got in the way on both ends; Soto was already ordered to next face Puerto Rico’s Jonathan ‘Bomba’ Gonzalez prior to seeking permission from the WBO to move forward with the unification bout. The WBA was prepared to grant such a courtesy to Kyoguchi until learning of the WBO ruling.

Soto-Gonzalez was placed on an October 16 Matchroom show in Fresno, California that was to feature Bermudez in a secondary title defense versus rising contender Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez. The announced fight came without the blessing of the WBA, forcing Matchroom to remove it from the show.

Soto went on to lose his WBO title to Gonzalez, ultimately ruining any plans for a Matchroom-controlled unification bout. With all other options exhausted, Kyoguchi and Bermudez were left to renew talks for a fight literally months in the making and which now appears to be on the horizon.

Strangely, the ordered title consolidation bout was ordered well in advance of the WBA’s continued efforts to reduce its number of recognized titlists. The sanctioning body went full force with the movement in August, partly due to public pressure but having remained committed to cleaning up its act.

Kyoguchi vs. Bermudez: WBA Title Clash on January 15 in Mexico

Unbeaten Japanese WBA 108-pound (super) world champion Hiroto Kyoguchi will travel all the way to Mexico to battle tough Mexican Esteban Bermudez, who is the WBA's regular champion at 108, in an interesting clash of civilizations on January 15.

The war in the Mexican territory will define the one and only World Boxing Association champion in the light flyweight (108 lbs) division.

After their clash was ordered by the WBA, a satisfactory agreement was reached between the Japanese and the Mexican camps, avoiding the process of a purse bid.

However, the venue for the rumble is still being worked out, and will be announced in due time.

The effective and fast-paced 28-year-old “super champion” Kyoguchi (15-0, 10 KO’s) from Osaka, known in Japan as “Dynamite Boy,” has already been a 2-division world champion.

This Mexico battle will be his fourth title defense of the crown he conquered by stopping in 10 chapters South African former king Hekkie Butler three years ago in Macao.

But the talented Japanese fighter is no stranger to exchanging heavy bombs against determined Mexican warriors, having already defeated two of them: Jose Argumedo, whom he outclassed back in 2017; and more recently Axel Aragon Vega, whom Kyoguchi overpowered and stopped in 5 rounds last March in Dallas.

Meanwhile, Mexico's regular champion of the WBA, Bermudez (14-3-2, 10 KO’s) from the City of Neza in the great State of Mexico, takes part in his first fight since he unexpectedly punished and dethroned Venezuelan slugger Carlos Canizales (22-1-1, 17 KO’s). Bermudez stopped Canizales in six rounds last May in Ciudad de México.

Canizales was the favorite among bookies and betting fans to dismantle Bermudez.

But that was far from what happened, because the underdog Bermudez was the one who controlled, stalked and tormented the heavy-handed Canizales.

Kyoguchi-Bermudez: WBA Sets January 7 Deadline To Receive Contracts For Title Consolidation Bout

Matchroom Boxing now has less than a week to deliver contracts for a fight that has been the works for months.

A final deadline of January 7 has been set for proof of firm plans in place for the WBA junior flyweight title consolidation bout between WBA “Super” champion Hiroto Kyoguchi and “World” titlieholder Esteban Bermudez. Both parties and event promoter Eddie Hearn were notified by the sanctioning body on December 29 of a ten-day period assigned to provide signed contracts and with the fight to take place no later than February 9.

The new date is the sixth deadline assigned to a bout that was first ordered on June 10, less than two weeks after Mexico’s Bermudez (14-3-2, 10KOs) dethroned previously unbeaten—though grossly inactive—WBA “World” junior flyweight titlist Carlos Canizales via sixth round knockout in a stunning upset last May 29 in Mexico City. Talks never really got off the ground, with the fight going virtually ignored throughout the summer.

It was brought back to the surface when the WBA was forced to begin its title reduction campaign, which the sanctioning body has since honored at an aggressive pace.

Matchroom Boxing (on behalf of Kyoguchi) and Greg Cohen Promotions (Bermudez) were contacted by the WBA on October 20 to renew talks, with a November 12 deadline in place to reach terms in order to avoid a purse bid hearing. The order came on the heels of Matchroom—with GCP’s approval—attempting to sneak Bermudez onto its announced October 16 DAZN card in Fresno, though in a voluntary title defense versus Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez in lieu of the ordered title consolidation clash with Kyoguchi. It came without the blessing of the WBA, who refused to sanction the fight and instead instruct the original parties to get back to work on the only fight it would approve.

Matchroom and GCP notified the WBA on November 11, alleging that terms were reached at which point a November 22 deadline was set to deliver final contracts.

Such demands were not met, nor was any update provided throughout the month of December.

The WBA has now doubled down on its demand to get this fight in the books. Both parties were reminded of two by-laws in place regarding violation of purse bid terms.

WBA purse bid rule D.15 (“Failure To Sign”) stipulates that “if the champion does not sign a bout contract within the required twenty (20) day period after the bid award, or refuses otherwise to participate in the bout for the winning promoter, he shall be considered in violation of these Rules, and may have his title vacated.”

Regarding the challenger—in this case Bermudez as the secondary titlist—rule D.15.b states that “if a boxer does not sign a bout contract within the required twenty (20) day period after the purse offer, or refuses otherwise to participate in the bout for the winning promoter, the boxer will be considered in violation of these Rules, and may forfeit his status.”

With the WBA striving to reduce each division to one recognized titlist, a double-default would result in Kyoguchi’s “Super” title being declared vacant and Bermudez’s “World” title removed from rotation.

Alternatively, the sanctioning body could call for a new purse bid as per rule D.16 (“Failed Bid”).

“If no qualified bid is received in response to the first purse bid request, or if the winning promoter or a boxer identified in the purse bid award fails to comply with these Rules, the Committee may request a second purse bid. In the case of a title defense, if no qualified bid is received in response to a second purse bid, the Chairman may vacate the title and the position of mandatory contender.”

Japan’s Kyoguchi (15-0, 10KOs) has held the WBA belt since dethroning Hekkie Budler via tenth-round stoppage on New Year’s Eve 2018. In his most recent start, Kyoguchi enjoyed a successful U.S.—and Matchroom—debut in a fifth-round injury stoppage of Axel Aragon Vega this past March 13 at American Airlines Center in Dallas. The fight was also his first under Eddy Reynoso’s ‘No Boxing, No Life’ management team.

WBA Title Consolidation Fight Heads To January 28 Purse Bid

Yet another deadline has passed without a deal in place for an ordered title consolidation clash between Hiroto Kyoguchi and Esteban Bermudez.

The World Boxing Association (WBA) has taken matters into its own hands, calling for a January 28 purse bid hearing to bring resolution to the junior flyweight fight that has been more than seven months in the making.

“The World Boxing Association (WBA) has summoned the Purse bid between the Light Flyweight super champion, Hiroto Kyoguchi and the regular champion of the category, Esteban Bermudez,” the sanctioning body announced Wednesday. “The bidding will take place on Friday, January 28 at 3:00 p.m., US Eastern Time, and it will be through the zoom platform.”

Kyoguchi will receive 75% of the winning bid as the WBA “Super” junior flyweight champion, with Bermudez to receive the remaining 25% as the “World” titleholder.

The ruling comes roughly one week after the final deadline that was established by the WBA, who called for final contracts to be received no later than January 7. Efforts to get a firm update from Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn (Kyoguchi) and Greg Cohen Promotions founder/owner Greg Cohen (Bermudez) led nowhere, leading to the fight now being made available to all WBA-registered promoters.

The timing of the purse bid hearing will likely have to force a new deadline for the fight to actually take place. With the January 7 date established to receive contracts came a stipulation that the fight needed to occur no later than February 7. A purse bid hearing would obviously alter those plans.

The fight was first ordered on June 10, less than two weeks after Mexico’s Bermudez (14-3-2, 10KOs) dethroned previously unbeaten—though grossly inactive—WBA “World” junior flyweight titlist Carlos Canizales via sixth round knockout in a stunning upset last May 29 in Mexico City. Talks never really got off the ground, with the fight going virtually ignored throughout the summer.

It was brought back to the surface when the WBA was forced to begin its title reduction campaign, which the sanctioning body has since honored at an aggressive pace.

Hearn and Cohen were contacted by the WBA on October 20 to renew talks, with a November 12 deadline in place to reach terms in order to avoid a purse bid hearing. It came without the blessing of the WBA, who refused to sanction the fight and instead instructed the original parties to get back to work on the only fight it would approve.

The fight was also his first under Eddy Reynoso’s ‘No Boxing, No Life’ management team.

The ordered title consolidation fight came well in advance of the WBA's aggressive approach to reducing its number of recognized titlists last August. That movement, however, has prompted the sanctioning body to stay on top of developments—or lack thereof—for Kyoguchi-Bermudez.

Undercard Press Release

As Boxing Scene previously reported, Hiroto Kyoguchi will defend his WBA light flyweight titles against Esteban Bermudez at the Arena Coliseo in Mexico City, Mexico on Friday June 10, live worldwide on DAZN, in the latest installment of Matchroom and DAZN’s fight series in Mexico, in association with Canelo Promotions and Clase Y Talento.

Kyoguchi (15-0 10 KOs) puts the titles he ripped from Hekkie Buddler in December 2018 on the line for the fourth time and makes a welcome return to the ring after his entertaining battle with the pocket rocket Axel Aragon Vega in Dallas in March 2021 came to an end when the challenger was forced to quit the bout with a hand injury in the fifth round.

The Japanese fighter, who previously defended the titles in successive points wins over Tanawat Nakoon and Tetsuya Hisada in June and October of 2020 in his homeland, fights in Mexico for the first time in the paid ranks and does so against a hungry contender.

Bermudez (14-3-2 10 KOs) holds the WBA "regular" title after handing a first career defeat to defending champion Carlos Canizales in stunning fashion – flooring the belt-holder towards the end of the sixth round before wiping him out with 23 seconds left in the session. The 26 year old will be fired up to elevate to Super champ and rip the coveted Ring Magazine strap from Kyoguchi, and the defending king knows he’s in for a big test on June 10 as he covets unification bouts down the line.

“It was always my dream to fight in Mexico because the Mexican style has influenced me a lot,” said Kyoguchi. “It is a great opportunity to show my boxing in that country against a rival like Esteban Bermudez. Regarding the unification fight, I think it is my mission as absolute champion.”

“He is a very good champion but kind of weak because too many injuries – I’ve been waiting a year for him to fight me!” said Bermudez. “I live from boxing, and I’ve needed this fight to happen for a long time. I’ve been at training camp for this fight, and he is coming to my home town, the title is going to still here.”

Mexico’s undercard is shaping up nicely, supporting what promises to be an explosive main event is a cast of hot talents led by Jorge Casteneda meeting Mexico City’s Eduardo Hernandez for the WBC silver international super lightweight title. Texan Casteneda (15-1 11 KOs) has upset the apple cart in his last two bouts, first handing a majority decision defeat to unbeaten Otha Jones III in Florida in April 2021, and then travelling to London, England to take another ‘0’ by beating Youssef Khoumari in October, again via majority decision.

Diego Pacheco (14-0 11 KOs) continues to be a must-watch talent and the 21 year old ticks off another major milestone as he stretches his legs over the ten round distance for the first time, against an opponent to be named.

Mayerlin Rivas faces Isis Vargas Perez on June 10, Kyoguchi vs Bermudez moved to Guadalajara

WBA super bantamweight champion Mayerlin Rivas is scheduled to defend her title against Isis Vargas Perez on Friday, June 10. The pair squares off live on DAZN from Domo Alcalde in Guadalajara, Mexico.

The previously announced headline-bout features WBA (Super) light flyweight champion Hiroto Kyoguchi in defense of his title against Esteban Bermudez. The date when the fight card airs live in the UK and Australia is Saturday, June 11.

Rivas (16-4-2 10 KOs) makes the first defense of the belt that she landed in her last outing back in February 2020, beating Laura Ledezma in Panama City in February to become a two-weight champion at the second attempt. The Venezuelan became bantamweight champion in June 2015 and made three defenses, winning two and drawing one, and makes a welcome return to action as she looks to start a path to becoming unified and undisputed at 122 lbs.

Perez (8-5 3 KOs) will have other ideas though, and on home turf, the Mexican aims to become a world champion for the first time at the second attempt. The 24-year-old met Yamileth Mercado for the WBC crown in April, and bounces straight back into world title action just two months later.

Among other bouts featured on the card Jorge Castaneda defends WBC International super featherweight title against Eduardo Hernandez. Texan Castaneda (15-1 11 KOs) enters the bout on the back of two key wins, picking up a majority decision against unbeaten Otha Jones III in Florida in April 2021 and Youssef Khoumari in London last October.

Castaneda enters hostile territory once again to make a first defense of the vacant title he landed in the UK, meeting WBC’s #8 ‘Rocky’ Hernandez (31-1 28 KOs) in his stomping ground. The 24-year-old is on a three-fight KO streak following his sole loss to date in July 2019 to now world champion Roger Gutierrez.

“Rocky Hernandez is a good fighter but he’s in my way of becoming a world champion,” said Castaneda. “On June 10, I’m putting on a spectacular performance and sending a message to the 130lb division.”

“This fight will set the difference between being a prospect and showing the world I’m a reality,” said Hernandez. “I’m not losing in my house – this one is for my daughter.”

Also in action 21-year-old Diego Pacheco (14-0 11 KOs) faces Raul Ortega (10-2 7 KOs) in a ten-rounder at super middleweight.

“This is going to be a great night in Mexico, with another world title added and a very important fight in the 130lb division,” said Hearn. “It’s great to have Mayerlin back in action, she’s itching to get back out there and start hunting down the other titles, so she’ll be eager to impress against Rivas.

“This clash between Jorge and Rocky is going to be so explosive. Both men carry power that can end any fight in an instant, and that makes this a must-watch battle and an important one for the 130lb division.

“Our Mexico shows have delivered huge drama and excitement, and with a spicy main event and a great supporting cast of talented young fighters, the fans will be the winners again on June 10.”

Other bouts featured on the Kyoguchi vs Bermudez card are expected to be announced shortly. The current lineup can be found below.

Liked the look of Kyoguchi against Vega, looks all action, Bermudez record not up to much but he's the regular champ so it cleans up that mess, hopefully we'll never see another WBA Regular champ at Light Fly
