Josh Warrington's lubed head

Post by Pugilist-specialist »

I've never seen a fighter with so much Vaseline on their head. I wondered why they had applied so much that his hair was plastered down. We soon found out.

He certainly employed Holyfield style tactics last night.

His Dad said he was taking it as a win. He said his son looked strong and "bullied him".
There was roughly one butt/minute. Does anyone really believe they were unintentional?

As I said on the RBR last night, I personally reckon Warrington was looking for a way out, he wasn’t gonna win and didn’t want to get ko’d in front of his fans.

It's possible I'm unsure either way. He looked okay in the first round.

Was there any call for a DQ? It seems there was a couple headbutts before the main one, which if deliberate surely should have been a DQ.

Some of the reaction afterward, corner claiming victory and that Lara had no heart was poor stuff. If they duck the rematch it's clear what was going on.

No calls for a DQ and not even a mention from the ref, despite Lara complaining about all the head butts long before the final one. Guaranteed if it had been the other way around, Gray would have DQ’d Lara.

‘Bullied him’

The desperation to see a ‘new Warrington, totally different to the first fight’ was so palpable, on the part of so many people, the DAZN team were joyfully conforming it after like thirty seconds (!!!!) of the fight, they could already tell Josh was totally different, Jesus it was pathetic

And it just got worse after the fight. I’d kind of warmed to Warrington but that was a load of sh1t he and his team and promoters and broadcasters spewed out last night.

‘Bullied him’

Warrington never had to take the rematch, he could have easily eased back in with a couple of low key wins, bringing in Benn type opponents.

Then if the Mexican lost or another likely title shot came about no one would have complained about not taking the rematch.

If they still feel confident they can give him another go. Not having a third wouldn't be a worse duck than not giving him the second.

Warrington doesn't need the Mexican, he needs another title and some paydays.

Big credit for Josh taking the rematch straight away; gutsy and brave kid.

However - towards the end it was turning into a repeat of the last fight. Lara hadn`t connected - but I`m pretty confident that sooner rather than later he would have. Josh wasnt able to hurt Lara in the first fight, Josh is not known as a puncher .. so things would have likely followed first fight.

As others have said. There is no need for a 3rd contest. Neither have a title, and neither now are seen as top contenders.

Once a boxer has been stopped in such a devastating fashion as Josh was, it makes things a lot tougher for them.

Seen a few tweets suggesting Warrington was getting badly hurt and about to get stopped himself, equally as bad as the Bunce's take, truth was both were trading leather and it was still too early for a pattern to develop, still pretty sick it ended like that

I don't think its fair to throw stones at any of them , they came for the rematch , Josh threw some serious leather , and Lara was starting to throw some back ,, It was way to early to see how it was going to develop , alls i know is it was shaping up to be a cracker , with a lot of questions going to be answered the main one was Josh just caught in the first one on a bad night and did'nt recover , could Lara do it again ,,

At first i thought Lara was looking for an excuse with the head clash , but when you seen it they were correct calling the doctor , note i said head clash , thats because it did'nt look intentional to me , although i will have another look , it looked to me like to bulls coming together and accidents sometimes happen ,,, does he need a rematch ,, Naaaw , he needs to go make himself some serious money ,, Conor Benn is makig serious money we know that cos him and Eddie keep telling us , A warrior like Josh taking hard fights needs to be making more ,

Have you ever seen a boxer lube all his head up like that? Have you ever seen the taller boxer (fully lubed up) unintentionally headbutt his opponent 5 times in 4 and a half minutes?

Only in boxing could you have an indecisive outcome and recommend the home town money fighter goes elsewhere and it make sense.

Have the rematch and settle it. Lara would’ve got him IMO but looks like we will never find out and I know who that suits. The challenger with the ignorant fan base.

Having watched it again - it is quite ominous Warrington have the front of his head and fringe smeared with vaseline.

Lara was getting to him by the end of the 2nd also. Josh had taken the 1st .. doing well first part of 2nd. But Lara was definitely getting to him by the end of the 2nd.

I noted to myself that Warrington was leading with the 'ed. The referee should have had a word. In my opinion there was deffo a case for a disqualification as i feel the butt looked intentional as i watched the fight in real time.

Start with the boxer would'nt of lubed his own head up , but a trainer who's worried about his fighter taking heavy shots would defo be the one lubing it up , and doing that KNOWING FULL WELL that the ref will probably tell him to wipe some off , thats just part of the game you see it thousands of times ,, , But i don't know off any boxer / trainer who's game plan id go out and clash heads , and risk a cut themselves ,

But dirty fighters sometimes do use there head no doubt about that ,, this one i'm gonna be non commital till i watch it again , i seen the heads to close , but you get that when two guys are bothe willing to put it on the line ,, and this was shaping up to be a cracker

So the ref could have said something like

‘Watch tut eads in close!’

During the final instructions?

Watched it a few times now , i don't think it was all intentional , he was going in low , but on the clash looked like Lara head went down and clashed , i've not got the benefit of slow motion , probably a bit careless but don't think it was deliberate head butting , more going in with knees bent to slip the hook and come up with a punch ,,

either way he was'nt grabbing and sticking the nut on like some are sugesting

He was trying to rough him up a bit, get a bit of momentum & the crowd behind him. I highly doubt he wanted a bad cut to come from a head but & the fight to end in 2 rounds.

There’s been some bad takes from Warrington’s camp & a few fans but also from people going the other way & making out it was only a matter of time before Warrington was hurt & stopped.

Warrington got clipped a couple of times but he’s going to, it’s his fight against a good opponent with similar dimensions to himself but the difference was he wasn’t jumping into shots & he was getting his guard up & wasn’t getting hit repeatedly. Still too early to tell how the fight would’ve gone but he was nowhere near as reckless as the first fight.
