Re: Heavyweights : Odlanier Solis vs. Ruslan Chagaev
Both were solid boxers with good fundamentals and amateur pedigree. Of course, Solis' amateur background is greater, but in the pros Chagaev definitely was better, more accomplished for a reason.
Solis became lazy in the pros, he wasted his potential and didn't show anything highly meaningful. His best wins were over the mediocre fighters like Barrett and Austin, while Barrett seemed quite shabby at that moment and while Solis' display in the Austin bout was far from special. Solis was a short lived fringe contender.
Chagaev was a legit top fighter of his era, as he dealt without any problems with the likes of Valuev and Ruiz, gave a more or less competetive fight to Povetkin.
Chagaev would outbox Solis and take a decision in the 116-117 range.
