Pernell Whitaker

Post by locoxelbox »

Bob, do you have any record on Pernell Whitaker? I have seen a claimed amateur record of 201-14 but on BoxRec there is nothing before 1982 when he was 18 already. He surely must have won some tournaments as a Junior Olympian, etc?

Thanks Bob :TU: . That´s almost 20 added bouts. He was knocked out at the Junior Olympics :o .

Boxrec mentions one fight:

1982-06-01 Joey Belinc W SD 3/3
Exact date & site unknowm, in June 1982. Source : Marysville Globe.

Do you think this one is accurate or have they mixed up his win over Belinc at the US Sports Festival one month later?

It's possible but without a date or place I would tend to think it is a repeat...
