Bridgerweight first title fight farce
So we have Oscar Rivas Vs Ryan Rozicki.
Oscar has only ever weighed below 224lbs once beating a boxer with a 8-5 record.
Rozicki has never weighed in the weight range at Bridgerweight, plus he isn't in the rankings at that weight either, but somehow has got the title shot.
Joke weight division, joke title fight

It's a joke title fight for a title that shouldn't exist.
I will try and watch it though.

Rozinki isnt even a real cruiser. he one of those guys stuck in the huge gap between light heavy and cruiser (incedently where another division is actually needed....)

Re: Bridgerweight first title fight farce
didn't get that shit is for the new 'belt' now.
i like rivas, so good for him if he picks that nonsensical shit strap up and gets the hell out of that shit division asap back up to heavy again.
so solely from rivas perspective this farcical affair could make sense if he finally gets opportunities at heavyweight with the recognition as 'bridgerweight champion' for whatever that might be worth.
could he possibly even challenge for the heavy title as the 'champion' of the 'division' below?
anyways, after 2 absolutely wasted prime (still looks in top shape)years he may end up with at least some opportunities.
but you can bet his managers will fornicate it all up. poor oscar.
how rozizki got the shot at the beaver shit weight title is mindboggling

Hopefully the other 3 governing body's don't follow suit and the British board don't sanction it like they don't for WBU and all other made up titles

Re: Bridgerweight first title fight farce
So the first title fight for the weight division brought in to stop big weight differences at heavy , has a 20lb weight difference in the boxers
Oscar Rivas 222.2 vs. Ryan Rozicki 203
What a joke

Doesn't the IBO already have a "super cruiserweight" division?
I hope the WBA, WBO, and IBF don't follow suit with this crap. Heavyweight is 200+, although I remember a time when heavyweight was 196+ and I personally think it should be the way it was. 195 is plenty for cruiserweight.

Bocksnation/Premier Sports showing this Friday night

Cruiserweight used to be 190 lbs, I think it changed sometime around the start of 2004.HomicideHenry wrote: ↑21 Oct 2021, 16:25 Doesn't the IBO already have a "super cruiserweight" division?I hope the WBA, WBO, and IBF don't follow suit with this crap. Tony Bellew was on of the main people pushing this division and a big reason the WBC went ahead with this nonsense and his own (inadvertent) comments revealed how he truly felt.
"Bridger weight is for the Heavyweights who aren't good enough........ aren't big enough at Heavyweight"
Deontay Wilder wasn't too small to be successful, Usyk wasn't too small to be successful, so clearly the better small Heavyweights can compete.
Also Anthony Joshua (considered one of the big heavyweights of today) weighted 240 for his last fight and 237 for his fight with Andy Ruiz.
I doubt he'd have any problems getting to 224 for a weigh in the day before with a water cut.
Hopefully it doesn't catch on and the WBC give up on it eventually.

Re: Bridgerweight first title fight farce
it was a good fight, rozicki was staggering around at the end of the first, but then funnily enough from that point never budged and showed an iron chin. he was a hard bastard with loads of heart. could hardly block a shot but was always applying pressure and made rivas work very hard for the win. the official scores of 115-112 x2 and 116-111 were pretty much right.
funny enough though, bridgerweight was supposed to be about leveling the playingfield for size, but rivas was like twice as thick as rozicki. rozicki has weighed in the 180s and low 190 whereas rivas had to come down to make 222, and was absolutely shredded.
it was basically a career long heavy vs a small cruiser who could defo make the old 190 limit

Yeah Rosizcki was only 203 lbs or something. Fun fight. Neither are world class but it was an all action fight. Hopefully the fact that Usyk weighed less for AJ than Rivas weighed last night makes the WBC aware of the stupidity of their decision.

Re: Bridgerweight first title fight farce
That was a tremendous fight tbf, I agreed with the 115-112 card, I had it even after 8 but Rivas pulling away at the end, it was bombs away from the opening bell, Rivas hurt Rozicki at the end of 1st and it looked like a right hand had him touching down at the bell, Rozicki came back into things by 3rd and then it was a war of attrition, both men slugging away to head and body, bringing up uppercuts through middle and taking turns to tee off on each other, I didn't think both could keep it up but they did, even when Rozicki tired down stretch and was bloodied he still kept throwing, Rivas couldn't hurt him again until 11th when he started to create a bit of distance and his skills pulled him away, wasn't sure about point deduction for Rivas not that it mattered, great fight

If I was Hughie Fury I'd be looking to lose those lbs again to get into this weight class, easy pick up of a titlemaverick23 wrote: ↑23 Oct 2021, 09:22 Fun fight. It’s a title no one respects though and will a fight with Rivas be worth big bucks for him? I’m not so sure.Old bones Ian wrote: ↑23 Oct 2021, 11:04If I was Hughie Fury I'd be looking to lose those lbs again to get into this weight class, easy pick up of a titlemaverick23 wrote: ↑23 Oct 2021, 09:22 Fun fight. I can't see Hughie beating anyone at heavy for a title, this would earn him some money , at the moment he's a bit playermaverick23 wrote: ↑23 Oct 2021, 12:09It’s a title no one respects though and will a fight with Rivas be worth big bucks for him? Re: Bridgerweight first title fight farce
It's absurd to have cruiserweight and now goddamn bridgerweight between light heavyweight and heavyweight. Where's the logic? They must re-name light heavyweight to super duper middleweight, as it comes over super moddleweight, but doesn't go under heavyweight. If not, it should be re-named at least to light cruiserweight, as it goes under cruiserweight. If it remains light heavyweight, it's better to re-name cruiserweight to jr heavyweight and bridgerweight to almost heavyweight or something like that. They need to sort all this stuff out!

They should be cutting down the divisions, there's no depth or interest in half of them.
Instead the suits in charge want more sanctioning fees. This division died a death when Usyk a man lighter than the so called Bridger weight champ just won the unified Heavyweight championship.
I didn't watch it and I won't even give it oxygen talking about it. That's what the WBC want.
